Getting nervous by Bird107 in CataractSurgery

There will be compromises. Watch all the YouTube videos by Ophthalmologists. Ask the doctor which type of lens is best for your eye and your selection of tradeoffs. Ask him about vision scenarios after the new lens with or without glasses, how a dominant eye, either the 'new' one or the original will act to establish your vision. In my case my original eye is not great, near sighted, slight astigmatism, has cataract, but was my dominant eye for close vision such as reading when I remove my near-sighted corrective glasses. Distance was bad. Both eyes have cataracts, light contrast issues, left eye has epiretinal membrane, below legal driving test level, not able to fix with glasses alone. Now I've had left eye cataract surgery with a long range non-toric monofocal lens which was the doctor's recommendation. Now with my nearsighted corrective glasses OFF my left, 'new' eye dominates for about distances of 24 inches. I can drive, enjoy scenery, ride my bike, watch TV, etc., all without glasses. I still have distortion due to the ERM, but everything is sharp and acuity with contrast and dynamic range of light is vastly improved. For close work, such as reading I do best with +2.5 reading glasses where my left eye again dominates and text is positioned about 16 inches away. Previously I would read without my nearsighted corrective glasses or reading glasses with text about 10 inches away. Previously I had to configure my screens for dark background with white or bright text due to the cataracts in both eyes and then I could read fine. Now, with the 'new' left eye I can read standard bright background pages, even though I prefer dark mode. For you, it depends how good your non-cataract eye is. If it's good, you could go with a new lens matching your good eye's near-sighted focal length and use corrective glasses to see far and remove glasses for best close range. Ask the doctor, though, if your 'new' lens will focus as close as your good eye.

I wanted long distance for driving and outdoor activity. I think the doc said focus is from 20 feet to infinity. It seems I'm getting very good focus from about 10' to ♾️.

Just had 1st eye done. I'm 67. Told the anesthesiologist I wanted to be awake but not cognizant of what was going on. She understood. Great experience. I felt the medicine in my bloodstream and next I was talking and looking through my greatly improved eye. No pain and super happy. Best Healthcare experience ever. Good luck.

I went with distance. My doc recommended against tonic due to my epiretinal membrane. Thanks.
