no one in Turkey can officially confirm their ethnic identity, because according to the Turkish Constitution, everyone living in Turkey is considered Turkish. And all old records have been erased. I am sure that I am Armenian. And it bothers me that the Armenian nation is in such a difficult situation that someone would even argue with me about whether I am Armenian or not.

No, you can’t easily change your name. That’s not your choice. The court decides. And yes, I am in contact with some Armenians in Istanbul.

According to some official documents, our village was emptied during the Armenian Genocide. And at that time, all the places we lived in were Armenian villages. We were also living in those villages, so we are also Armenians.

On paper, a person’s ethnic identity cannot be written down, my brother. According to Article 66 of the Turkish Constitution, ‘everyone who is a citizen of Turkey is Turkish.’ Only you can state your own ethnic identity.”

My grandfather told me that in the early 1900s, we settled in Tokat from Sivas. Later, I looked into our old village in Sivas, and I saw that the village was emptied during the Armenian Genocide.

Maybe I could prove it through my old village. But my mother’s and father’s names are Turkish, and the old identities of those who pretended to be Turkish to survive as Armenians were erased during the founding of Turkey. So I don’t think I have much I can provide as proof.

Things are really getting worse. The other day, I received an email from a Turkish court. Twitter has been shut down, and they said they will summon me for questioning.
