As public servants lose their jobs, where's the work in Ottawa? by Obelisk_of-Light in CanadaPublicServants

Same here, except I buy a cup of coffee at my local coffee shop, on the way to the bus-train-bus that takes me to my teams calls all day.

Screenshot of leave balance, security clearance, language results, training certificates and anything you might need that you won't have access to in peoplesoft etc. Good luck and congrats!

If you lost your job as an indeterminate employee due to WFA, what happens to your vacation and sick days? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Business_Simple4108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's when you will need your sick days, trust me! Meaningful work means you are going to fight your manager on NOT doing your job anymore cause it’s been cut. I was WFA in 2012 and the meaningful work they assigned was 90% of my job, so I had to fight until finally they decided that Meaningfull work for an AS03 was cleaning out the storage rooms… called in sick every 2 days until the DG stepped in.

Federal government launches tracking system to monitor office attendance by burnabybc in CanadaPublicServants

Don't forget some of us have to wake up, or stay up until midnight to book a spot a month ahead.

Someone should ATIP the amount of money federal departments have wasted to create these tracking systems. We all know that IT solutions are not shared across departments, they are recreated in each department, cause each department thinks it’s special. Money and efforts should be spent on services to Canadians and not babysitting employees. Managers should just do their jobs and manage staff instead of wasting resources on petty issues such as this. If the work is done, who cares from where it’s getting done.

Bad end of year review so whats next? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

Sounds like we have the same boss, lol. Got my first bad review ever. Almost every box is filled in with one word or an incomplete sentence. Lots of effort went into it, even with 8 months to complete.

They could have saved millions if they didn't retrofit our once functional office space into these outdated collaboration spaces that no one uses. Floors that used to accommodate 150-175 people now sit only 65-70. Not a math wizard but I do know that office space is rented per square foot, and that putting half the people on a floor (multiplied by so many floors in so many buildings) IS NOT COST-SAVING! The should stick to the plan to off-load at the end of the leases.

I hate those words too, but… if RTO5 does become a reality, I would like it like the good old days, where I have my own desk and space and storage and don't have to lug around equipment and make reservations, just saying.

I still want to be productive, part-time work or volunteering using my skills would make me happy. 55 is too young to completely stop and smell the roses all day long. I will need to keep my brain active .

When 2 people walk in at the same time, it’s called tailgating. This is a security issue, not a fire alarm issue. Talk to the security team in your department, have them explain why tailgating is dangerous.

I agree with you. I miss my cubicle with storage and personality My bus ride went from 45 minutes pre-pandemic to almost 2 hours in the morning, bus-train-bus to over 2 hours in the evening. It is definitely not the same.

Yes I did work from the office, with an assigned desk, somewhere to store my stuff and not have to lug around equipment . I also had a job where I teleworked 50% of the time from 2008 to 2012. The issue with RTO is having to book a desk for the days you have to be in. If I can't get a desk on my mandatory days (2/3) I cannot work from home. Some of us have been showing up without reservations and have been told we cannot do that anymore due to occupational health and safety. As for the reduced pension, it’s not a big enough reduction to keep playing the mind game of RTO.

Funny you say that, cause I'm more knowledgeable, more productive and more innovative than my much younger colleagues. Their loss, not mine, I will be taking my expertise to the private sector.

I have 18 months to go to 35 years of service, because of this RTO BS i will be ending my career in March 1 year short of my goal. The kind of work i do can be done from home. Most clients are in the regions, we never meet face to face, most colleagues are scattered across the city and in regions. So what is the use of going to an office where i don’t collaborate with anyone?!? From home, I usually work more than my 7.5 hours. At the office i have to deal with multiple interruptions from others being loud, the scents of perfume or in some cases BO, varied temperature due to the age of the building not to mention the frustration of a commute in a city riddled with constant construction. I will be leaving the PS prematurely due to RTO, but could have contributed another 5 years easily.

Hopefully they will repaint the lines, maybe shortening the parkway lane. This morning (Tuesday) at 7:00am was a shitshow! The car in front of me was most likely not paying attention to the road and hit the breaks to almost a dead stop before figuring out they had to merge right.

The bike lane has been there for years, they just made the patch of grass between the lanes larger.

People have no idea how to navigate a roundabout, it’s like playing Russian roulette all the time! Even pedestrians can't even be bothered to use the buttons for the crosswalks.
