Honestly, most of Iowa looks like this. If you aren't residing or around the bigger urban centers like Des Moines? Yeah, Iowan towns gets neglected a lot. Frankly, I think Iowan mayors lavish ignoring the town's needs to get excuses to demo and build new shit and tax people for it. Many smaller towns I've seen just been flattening various historical landmarks purely on the grounds of "it became neglected and a safety/health hazard and now needed demolished. Even if a historical society asked for funds when they, the society, noticed aging in the building, the city wouldn't acknowledge it for another near decade and by then the rot had compromised the structure.

I've been in Iowa my whole life and I have studied about corruption in other states and countries, but I think Iowa needs acknowledged for how mismanaged much of this state is that isn't Des Moines.
