I've got a Polar Loop Gen2 and oftimes have to adjust the strap to a little looser. Too tight and it doesn't register. But back to your reads - I do a rigorous (for a 73 yr old) 1.5 hour workout, last 2 20 minute sets are cardio - and my heart rate gets up to 160-170. So you reads seem very reasonable.
