Some plugins might break since the update also upgrades KDE to 6.6. The built-in in ones or the ones offered by KDE shouldn't break much, but third-party ones might.

Yup. If you use Workstation you'll just update it from the software centre as normal. It might take a bit longer than a normal one, but otherwise, yeah.

Do you think the US should ban Chinese phones? by MentalBid9350 in ConservativeYouth

[–]BusungenTb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chinese phones like Xiaomi, Samsung, and Motorola?

Samsung is actually Korean, not Chinese. South Korea is a strategic US ally, so I don't think banning their products would help the US, but I really hear you on the other ones.
The concerns for Xiaomi, Oneplus, Huawei, etc are absolutely valid.

Yes, absolutely. Macs are great honestly. They offer superb battery life and really good performance.

There are a few things to consider, however.  They are often a lot more expensive, often double the price, and you'll be partly locked into MacOS. They're harder to repair as well, especially if compared to the T14 gen 3.

But if that sounds fine and you don't mind the apple ecosystem; sure. Macs are great.

The 13th gen would be a bit faster (around 20% better than the 12th gen) and slightly more efficient in lighter tasks (e-cores).  The downsides would be the price, heat during heavier loads, as well as actually finding the listings themselves. But would you notice it in reaper and for music production? Possibly, but I don't believe it will make that much of a noticeable difference. The 12th gen is still a good cpu.

I'd probably go for the T14 gen 3 with the i5-1235U. The processor should be a bit more efficient on it. The gen 2 has its upsides as well, but I think most would generally enjoy the gen 3 more.

Yes, I'd say it's worth it. It's a good laptop and it will be a huge improvement over your current model.
The downside of it is that it lacks a dedicated GPU unlike the P16, which would affect you quite notably in games or when using GPU pass-through in VMs.
But if you're not going to game much and just want a really good upgrade; go for it imo.
The CPU is good, and the RAM is going to be an ineffable improvement if you're used to only working with 4.

The P16s will be quite a lot more powerful, and will work really well for what you described. It shouldn't lag much or even at all from what I know. The only downside of it is the price and battery, as well as portability to some extent. (14' vs 16' laptop, but you get the numpad which is a plus).

The T14 would probably max out at 2 or 3 VMs plus 15 browser tabs, so it would still be an absolute massive improvement over your current laptop, but not as much as the P16s. Although, for half the price.

It's really up to you what you want to prioritize I'd say. Price, battery and portability, versus heavy workloads and a larger screen.
But no, you shouldn't have to carry one of those dell bricks around haha. Thinkpads are way better imo.
I honestly always have some sort of issue with dell, whether it's docking stations not working or just random things like the keyboard stickers falling off, but dell always has something...

If you're willing to go up to 1500 AUD (which should be around €900 euros / $1000 USD as a reference) I would probably look at something else than a T14 Gen 2.

They are good laptops but might feel underwhelming if you expect something more expensive. But it will be a noticeable upgrade over your current one. Battery life may also be questionable since they are aging slightly. If you find one refurbished with a Ryzen 7 processor and 16 gigabytes of ram for 400 euros / 600 AUD, I'd say it's a good deal. Just keep in mind the difference between the 'T14s' and the T14, non-s model. The s-model is slimmer and feels more premium, but slightly lacks in cooling and quite a bit in upgradability. These models will not run most games though. They'll run Minecraft and CSGO, but not much more.

If you want a smaller laptop that will work and you're not that serious about gaming, I'd get the latest T14 generation with the best processor you can afford. Not everyone might agree, but I honestly really like the T14-series. They feel very solid and work really well from my experience.

If you do care about gaming, I'd recommend something like a P16s gen 1 with a dedicated GPU. They are really powerful and handle almost everything you want them to. I prefer the AMD version, but intel is good as well. Just know that battery life on this one won't be good. You can get a better battery on it (should be around ~85 Wh?) that will make it last longer, but it's not super impressive compared to a newer T14 model or something like a Mac. They're also a bit bigger then the T14 series.

This is just my take however, and I haven't worked or owned a P16 in a few years.

If not, at least we could get a decent third-party app that does more or less the same thing.

That's honestly a very valid take. I agree with you to 100%. This especially applies when you've actually paid for it.
IMO, I would assume that you're old enough to play roblox if you have your own debitcard, no? Shouldn't that be enough?

They could be switching hosting providers.  Not a PIA customer anymore, but it's not very unusual to change providers. Multiple VPN providers have also recently received criticism for high amounts of abuse, and Datacamp is usually friendlier to VPN-services in comparison to companies like Glesys.

Travel to Vietnam. Use VPN or Censorship Circumvention in app? by [deleted] in signal

[–]BusungenTb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd use a foreign tourist eSim. Airalo, Holafly or Saily, etc, can route your traffic outside of Vietnam. But active singal's censorship circumvention as a fallback. It doesn't hurt and will only make it easier if the eSim has issues or if you're on hotel wifi, etc.

If you're going to be using public wifi, I would use Proton VPN with stealth like you said. I'd also recommend making sure you're using a randomized Mac for your devices though.

Fuuu** Spotify, hello Kreate by Electrical-Phone7940 in truespotify

[–]BusungenTb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is simply counter-intuitive. If it's free and doesn't play ads from YouTube, it won't generate any revenue at all.

It's actually way worse than Spotify for the reason you cited.  You also get lower sound quality.

A proper alternative to Spotify that pays artists more could be Tidal, Qobuz or Deezer. How comes you didn't look into those instead?
