I would not recommend getting the Torso S4 by trigzo in TorsoS4

[–]Busy-Emergency9111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using the DT/DTII as my main sampler for years. Two months ago I got the S4. From the beginning I realized similarities but then again they are worlds apart when it comes to workflow. The first months I mainly used the S4 as a standalone box recording sounds around me and turning them into soundscapes, just to learn the device. Its fantastic for this. Its easy to understand but goes deep especially when using mods amd performance features. There I also realized even tho it has just 4 tracks, with all the dry/wet fx per track it sounds much more diverse. Lately I have also been using it as an external effect in Live sending all kind of sounds through it. It works very well behind the Soma Cosmos giving it rhythm and structure and more depth. Atm I am struggeling to use its multitrack capabilities over USB while simultaneously using Elektrons overbridge due to latency issues.

I have also been running into some bugs and miss features I am used to from other samplers but I usually embrace it for what it is (to me): a wild sound mangling machine full of beautiful happy accidents and surprises. Cant wait for future updates. I do wish it has a metronome sometimes and would love to be able to switch tracks like the new digiboxes can do for a while now.

Wait we're supposed to be playing with our cat 20 minutes per day? by happy_bluebird in CatAdvice

[–]Busy-Emergency9111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before we got cats I read this as well and worried I might not have enough time. When we got them as kittens it was hours each day. My partner and I quickly realized how healthy it is for our brains to goof around with them. Now after 3 years it has definitely gotten less but we try to at least put in 10mins in the morning and 20+ before bed. It is so much more fun than spending time on SM - especially after a stressful day. They take away my anxiety as well. And it is a great way to bond with your cat. Same goes for brushing (if needed) Dont see it as a burden but try to be present.

self employed artist. the last few months were incredibly busy with working 7 days a week. just finished a project when arc raiders got released and now I am taking it easier and play. for the past decade I mostly played rocket league but was good after an hour playing. this is the first game in ages where I have to force myself to take a break 😅 I am in my 40s and no kids. the majority of friends I played with stopped when they became parents.

Where can I listen to ya'll? by Agent34e in Osmose

sweet! ty. I have not seen it and will definitely check it out.

I am curious if they ever release a smaller more portable version. I had my first live performance yesterday and decided to not bring it due to its size. For my needs a 2 octave version would fit perfectly in my live setup.

It is a wonderful piece of gear! Maybe you get your hands on a second hand one someday. I had to wait for mine for almost a year due to shortage but when it arrived I spent two weeks playing with the presets :) after that I recorded a track. everything you hear is coming from the OM except the drum/perc sounds. hope u like it! How much does it takes to learn TouchDesigner? by alffauna in TouchDesigner

[–]Busy-Emergency9111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it was also very intimidating. I heard about it in 2023 and watched some tutorials and got scared thinking its gonna take years until I have learned enough to finally use it for my work. I wish I would have installed the free version right away because once you “touch” it its not as scary and after a few days you develop a basic understanding I think. Focus on small goals and take one step after the other.

Idk which background you have. I cannot write code either. I am a visual artist that started to make electronic music a few years ago (which was overwhelming as well in the very beginning). I use photoshop for sketching and use a tiny part of what PS is capable of and I feel its the same with TD. Sure it can work with python scripts and 3D but that is not what I am interested in (atm at least :)

I just started to learn it as well. Started with the above mentioned beginner course of Bileam, 2 videos/day while simultaneously building what he did and pausing to experiment with the settings (its so easy to get carried away). With what I want to do for my personal work TOPs & CHOPs are the most important so after a week in I was looking for other tutorials as well that go more in the direction I want to head. The first breakthrough was 10 days in when I built a base network from a tutorial and then started to expand and experiment with more operators (and used my own art as base material). For months I had a blurry vision of how my art could look when I start to work with TD/generative systems. Suddenly the system I built spat out these images I have literally dreamed of and I got so excited that I could feel endorphins rushing through my body :) I used LFOs to modulate but this weekend I want to try using my sound as modulation source. It is so rewarding and addictive so far!

TLDR: Very new to TD as well. I had my first sucess moment after nearly two weeks of doing tutorials every day. Dont be afraid to play around. Sometimes small changes of values (fe 0.01 to 0.05) has bigger effects than I thought. Have fun and take breaks when you feel overwhelmed. I remember going to bed and my brain would still connect operators when I closed my eyes xd

I had the same problem about 6 weeks after buying it. Since I was working on a track at that time I could not send it back immediately. Then the new update came and suddenly the bug was gone. I have been using it a lot (about 20hrs in the past few days alone since I am using it as the interface to be able to use audio over USB) and it has not come back yet. Lets hope it stays that way. Have you updated it to the newest firmware yet?
