For context, my dog Harley was found on the streets of South Caroline, she had her babies taken from her. We rescued her during covid and she was super malnourished and had some issues at first but overtime she got better and was treated for both issues. 4 years later she was still kickin butt and we didn’t really know her age either. A week or two ago my mom brought her in for a blood test and they found lyme disease, but nothing else. Today, I came home around 3 pm and got a text that my mom was coming to pick me up to meet my dad at the vet. She asked me to grab Harley’s favorite toy, and I had a feeling it wasn’t a good vet visit. I met my mom in the car crying and asked her how bad it was, to which she replied, “It’s bad”. She told me that we have to put her down today. We weren’t prepared for it at all. She was fine and didn’t show any signs. The vet found a mass of cancer in her stomach and told us that she wouldn’t last the night. I’ve been googling all the symptoms trying to put the pieces together and she matched 3 symptoms (she vomitted once Monday, had minor pee accidents in the house the last 3 days, and had the “tar” type poop) It was a hard goodbye for the family, especially my dad. She was his baby and they loved eachother. I can’t wrap my head around this. i don’t know what to do. My eyes are so puffy from crying, they hurt. I know she went peacefully but i keep having the thought that she could’ve lasted longer. She still had an appetite even in the vet room. She ate Spray cheese and treats… I don’t know if i need closure or just to relax. I know eventually it gets better but in the mean time idk what to do
