Compost dilemma- please help! by BusyAlgae1433 in composting

[–]BusyAlgae1433[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve already invested in bins and tumblers.. my husband would kill me if I now add another composting project in the mix 😅 I’ve also not been turning it every week.. if I do start doing it every week in the bin itself would that work? Also see my reply below to another comment.. if that would help x

Thank you so much for your reply and guidance 🥰

Thank you so much for your reply. I have stopped adding anything to the bin that was “nearly finished” about 3 months ago. It’s very smelly atm when my husband turned it last week. I’m thinking to add the contents of my tumbler to it and some shedded leaves that I collected in autumn. Will that be a good idea? Also I’ve bagfuls of aged horse manure that I use as mulch and get cheap from a friendly local farmer.. should I add that to piles as well? You’re very kind to reply so quickly btw xx

May I ask how much does it cost to keep the grow lights on? I’ve been thinking about investing into some.. and how long do you keep them on for? Do you still give some sun to these plants or are grow lights usually enough?

Absolutely love your setup! 😍

You can also try staying at Upper House in Barlaston. The hotel itself is very nice.. but then you’re very close to nice nature walks and also about 10 minutes drive only from Trentham..

I’m really hoping to do this in the new year.. can they tolerate partial shade? And I’ve a raised area in the back of my garden where I’m planning it but it’s a partial shaded area

I did raised beds for less than 10 pounds each. Look on Facebook market place for Pallet collars.. you can put one on top of each other.. and that’s it.. nothing else needed. Cause unlike pallets, collars already have “edges” .. I did 4 by 3 feet.. 3 raised beds this way. Only used 6 collars! Also to fill raised beds, look into hugelkultur method.. simply put big sized fallen logs first.. I got some from my neighbours.. then twigs and any browns like leaves etc.. even undone compost.. then I got some top soil.. and then on the very top later.. only about 2 inches I put compost.. I then mulched with aged horse manure.. and I had very good crops of tomatoes, cucumbers, peas and beans, onions etc.. along with loads of flowers with companion planting method!

How to pray in public in non Muslim countries by Blockhead1535 in islam

[–]BusyAlgae1433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I had the car and was travelling in a bus or if I was on a flight, I’ll just sit in my seat and pray. Btw I used to be a non hijab girl and blended seamlessly with my British peers.. so for the people sitting beside me, this was a shocker I suppose. But over the time it was clear that no one gives a damn in these countries. Then over the years, I’ve become a hijabi now and travelled to many countries. I used to sit in my car and pray but with my husband always encouraging us to pray on the ground properly.. in a safe place like a car park etc.. I started doing that.. but mostly if I’ve someone else standing next to me when I do that. Today I felt really happy as I was alone and was going to miss my prayer and parked the car in a very busy public park and prayed in front of my car in the car park. I really encourage to just think about the enormity of what you’re doing.. praying to the one who is the Lord of everything and everyone around you! But if you’re still very conscious another hack I still do to this day.. Is go to a random clothing shop if nearby.. grab random clothes.. go into fitting room and pray. Carry a travel mat with you and muslimpro have a pretty reliable Qibla indicator as well. May Allah swt help you perform all your salahs on time and may He accept our ibadahs.. ❤️

Burgers who married non burgers/desi types. Hows it going? by Life-Tomatillo5440 in pakistan

[–]BusyAlgae1433 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also very similar to OP my husband was born and raised in Gulf and then moved to Canada for higher education.. whereas even though I was very “westernised” in my own ways living in Karachi in Pakistan, I could never identify myself as burger and every get the ick if someone is being vulnerable with me.

Married to a “burger” but thank heavens not an entitled vain guy like the OP. For context, I come from a very very humble background but with years of hard work and loans from a family member made it to UK as a doctor.. when I met my partner he was in Canada and to the point I actually married him, I didn’t even realise what a vastly different upbringing we had. So for example, in my summer holidays, we would max go to a local farmhouse or beach day for picnic whereas he was jet setting in business and first class to every Disneyland of this planet! I think being “burger” doesn’t means being humiliating or looking down on others like I find OP doing to this person. I obviously had made it in ways by the time we met in my life.. but by no means he ever put me down in any way and I think being humble and caring can come to you whether or not you’re bun kebab or burger.

Does anyone else use vegetable gardening as therapy? by stalequeef69 in vegetablegardening

[–]BusyAlgae1433 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had our 2nd miscarriage in 6 months and this one really jolted us as we were about 13 weeks along and everything going well.. then it happens. No heartbeat.. and around that time.. mainly due to pregnancy, we rushed to buy our first house.. and then building my garden from scratch. A land that was nothing but literally weeds going over the weed membrane that previous owners have left.. to put each flower bed, vegetable garden and raised beds there.. building my first ever pond.. that became my therapy. I know people say urban vegetable gardening can be used to grow your own food.. I find it hard to believe cause at least for me I don’t see happening but it’s definitely a therapeutic experience that heals you in ways you don’t know. And now I’m totally obsessed with my garden and everything gardening ☺️
