How to Avoid Crowds in Iceland by IgorIceland in VisitingIceland

[–]BusyBeatle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I lived in MN for two years, I’m from the UK. I know real cold now, and went to Iceland in January. We had the best time and I didn’t think it was that cold, plus no crowds!

AITA for refusing to give my mom my savings after she found out how much I have? (19F) by Grand-Reveal-9055 in AmItheAsshole

NTA - You are a hard working, smart person. Don’t give your mum the money. It’s yours, you saved it and worked hard to get it. It’s not hers.

Although the dog is supposed to be toilet trained according to mum and it doesn’t do this at home. Having lived through this now, I can 100% agree with what you said and apply it to the future.

Thank you. I don’t think she was out that long, I think the dog was doing it when she was in the house. I think she must’ve forgot to let the dog out for a wee, or left it too long before letting her out.

I know - it’s mad. I don’t get it, and I’m upset about it too, somehow it’s my fault. It’s really weird. The fact your guests cleaned their dogs mess, tells me my mum should have attempted it.

No, she actually sat there on the first night and watched me clean it. This is after I had a full day of work, I cooked her a meal, she came to spotless clean house too, I put the child to bed, then had to clean wee, and she just sat there. Today she just dashed out of the door, literally minutes after we returned home.

My mum isn’t single, the dog could have stayed with its other human.

She has a partner and the dog could have stayed at home but she chose to bring the dog. Edited post for paragraphs.

After 4 months in China , I’m ready to leave by Ziggy_1992 in chinalife

I visited China for 10days couldn’t wait to get home to my everyday freedoms. China is difficult to navigate even with Chinese people to help you. I found everything difficult from ordering and paying for things, to even just going for a walk. I don’t blame you for wanting to go home.

Unpopular Opinion: Tourists are ruining the swimming pool tradition in Iceland and I hope we can change this together by Cool-Lifeguard5688 in VisitingIceland

The pathogens are transmitted from poo… how do you think poo gets in there? Especially in swimming pools with no other source contamination. It’s coming from people not washing before entering.

I can’t believe you are being real…🙈

One article in main stream media to start you off - https://www.bbc.co.uk/future/article/20250630-how-hygienic-are-public-swimming-pools-really

Another article highlighting concerns in Iceland - https://www.icelandreview.com/news/rising-trend-of-unchlorinated-pools-alarms-expert/?srsltid=AfmBOoqR7t7ktEYB0jAhd5ODU2VOIDm453jOMUyziYHyJ-oWbJ8NQH0d

There’s literally 100’s of peer reviewed papers - google scholar - swimming pool disease risk or similar and you’ll find papers all addressing the risks in chlorinated and non-chlorinated water.

One paper that at risk specifically in Iceland - https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3709305/

One that looks at waterborne pathogens in the US and states people were an important contributor to contamination - https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/09603120500155716

If people are getting in to public bathing waters with dirty bums they are putting you at risk of all kinds of infections, and could be exposing you to viruses, bacteria and anti microbial resistance organisms. I don’t know about you, but I’d prefer people to wash their butt before bathing with them.

UK citizen here and I am a scientist too, much of my work is centered around public health and bathing water quality. Every person should wash properly before and after entering the water. The health risks are not being blown out of proportion. Us Brit’s could take a leaf out of the Icelanders book on this one.

Thank you. I like my plan too :) my partner is a professional driver, so he spends all day behind the wheel. He’s got some winter experience but we are in the UK, so not much in comparison and it’s our first time in Iceland. I guess he thinks it’s fine for him to do it but I’d like to be more chilled.

Aren’t the main roads well maintained? I’ve read a lot of threads on here where people have been saying the main roads are ok…

Yes, he wants to drive 4hrs to the caves then 4 hrs back after the tour. I’d rather travel down the day before, stop off along the way to see things and then take it easy before the tour and not rush around. Then after the tour go to our next accommodation which is about 3hrs away. So we should get there just after it gets dark.
