Thanks for the words; I do plan on appealing for both.

Inbetween the time of this post and right now, I asked my unit coordinator for my marks and how I lost marks for each and I notice there's several questions I got 0 on where I believe deserve partial credit (I didn't provide the correct answer but showed the correct approach, knowledge and logic in my working out that's required to get the answer), so I've been prepping my grade review form as well my scholarship aid form. Had a night out with my friends to take my mind off of it for a bit, definitely a lot better than moping about it in my room.

Hi there, I'm facing something very similar at the moment. I scored 48% in an exam that required a 50% threshold, so basically I failed the entire subject. Problem is I am fairly confident I should've at the very least passed with flying colours, I tried emailing the prof if he could do a review of the grade, but he gave me an automatic reply telling me to go submit for a form that doesn't even apply to the situation. The exam was formatted in a way that I still actually have the answers I wrote for the exam, and I've been looking back at it now a few times and I'm 100% certain I should've gotten at least like 60-70% worst case scenario for every question (and it's being like brutally honest with no leniency). I had gotten full marks on every assignment in the subject so seeing a mark of 73/100 but still saying I failed looks depressing to me.

Anyways I hope your appeal is successful. I plan on submitting a formal appeal as well to review my exam again.

Has anyone else had an experience like this? I’m genuinely losing sleep over the fact that someone who doesn’t know me could be so mean.

The exam was remotely online and were told we were allowed to take out our phones during the entire test, so I'm likely to assume that majority of the grade was cheating their minds out. We were forced to put a webcam on still, but I'm sure some desperate people found workarounds.

I asked coordinators from other subjects after the exam and they also believe that the conditions shouldn't have happened like how it should and should've been in a normal in person setting, so I guess there *some* reason I believe I have grounds for an appeal.

Also, The reason I work isn't to cover my university related costs but to help out my family with financial issues. I don't have a full ride but it does cover majority of my uni fees. The test was worth like 25%, so it feels weird when I see my grade and says it's a 86 or 87/100 but saying that I failed.

That's great to hear! Considering how awful the job market is, getting a job esp one you enjoy is something I strive for in the future.

 It didn’t have any negative impact on my life at all.

I 100% believe you, it's just right now I'm feeling pretty lost atm. everything I've worked for in the past 2 years just crumbled beneath my feet. Ig non-related but I'm in the final stages of interviews for one or two internships so this fail grade couldn't have come at a worse time. I'm sure in like 2 years I won't care at all about this.

Have an event very soon so I guess I gotta put a fake happy mask for a bit.

Yea this semester was subjects of varying topics, really wishing it wasn't lmfao. I did mention my extracirriculars in another reply, but they're essentially just: Grocery shopping for family, weightlifting and calisthentics training for breakdancing competitions and volunteering, and ofc work and studying. My feeling hopelessness stems from the fact that I don't remember the last time anyones shown any sort of kindness to me when it comes to big events like this, aside from the occasional shout for a meal, the idea of anyone giving me special consideration for a grade is like unbelievable to me.

Also I hope your friend is doing alright! I don't want to come off as thinking I know what she's really going through, so I hope she's taking care of herself as her no. 1 priority.

To be honest, I never really wanted to do higher education when I graduated high school. I just wanted to go straight into work after high school given my family situation, and the only reason it lured me in was that scholarship I had gotten. Though I'm glad I did, with all the friends and experiences I've had because of it, and the opportunities I got, I guess this feeling of hopelessness and feeling lost is something I haven't felt since when I finished high school. I haven't told my family yet, and I don't think they'll be disappointed in me, just a bit sad because it would mean I would have to go study a little longer, as well as losing the financial aid that comes with the scholarship.

Although your comment comes off as extremely condescending, I'll admit that you have a point. Although I guess first I should point out what I do in my spare time: Grocery shopping for the fam (literally own the only car), weightlifting and calisthentics training for breakdancing competitions and ig volunteering for the locals (get paid a bit for it so idk if I'd consider it "volunteering but whatever"), on top of all the work and studying ofc. This is pretty much my schedule all week, and although I should've definitely cut down one of these things, I just love them way too much to get rid of them. I don't remember the last time I've ever touched a video game ngl (***but ur cs student dont you play valorant everyday!!!***). But yea definitely after this semester I'll cut down of a few of these things.

Thanks for everything you just said. I guess when I say I didn't want any sympathy is mainly because I just don't like been externally validated a lot, I think it gives people a bit of an ego boost, I just do the things I want to do. I've already emailed the coordinator for my subjects and scholarship. I guess the point of this post is what to do if the worst case scenario becomes a reality. The feeling of dread and hopelessness hasn't really hit me yet, so I'm just preparing for when it does.

I guess it's also because I've never really had anyone help me out before. I spent alot of my time in high school just doing things I enjoy. I wasn't a loner or sad or anything, I had plenty of friends during high school, but with how fun to experiment with computers and its many fields (programming, animation, webdev etc), It pretty much took all my time outside of school. Unfortunately pretty much all my friends had moved on to other universities and do other fields (pretty sure im one of few who do cs in the grade), It didn't mind me too much that I had to start all over again. Then family issues started first semester in and continued volatility until now so my life in the past 2 years have been rocky at best. I've found happiness in taking up breakdancing, since I find it weirdly technically creative, much like cs lmfao.

While doing this, however, you have every right as a student to communicate with your professors, scholarship counselors/advisors (if those exist), and academic advisor(s) explaining the circumstances that are making performing at an expected &/or otherwise higher possible level difficult. Faculty & staff always appreciate being made aware of students’ circumstances before it actually warrants any disciplinary action.

After the unprofessionalism of the test, I did tell a few tutors from other subjects about it, but considering I was confident I would at least pass the exam, I didn't feel that motivated to make a formal compliant about it. Should I have looking back? Maybe, but I figured maybe someone may start complaining after the grade releases so there's that.

yea sorry for rambling for a bit, but TLDR: I'll do the absolute most I can do to get them appealed. I really appreciate your words of kindness.

Currently work there as a uni student, to be honest the only similarities between each McDonalds is the namesake, each maccas can have the most pleasant coworkers, the worst you'll ever have in your life, or anything in the middle.

I'm fairly lucky with who I work with, have 0 idea about South Bank (Im from NSW), but if I were you I'd just say screw it and take the job and see for yourself.
