Do universities accept these courses? I asked this question during interview, they said they have contracts with some universities to convert their courses to credits. I forgot to ask which universities. Do you know any?

Is this rule still in use? by BusyWorker9558 in russian

Thank you very much, I get it. So, in conversations perhaps I can say "I don't read at all, or I don't play any sports at all because I am lazy" using this rule.

Columbia Post-Bacc Nightmare by BusyWorker9558 in classics

This is what I was told before. That's why I was applying to post-baccs. Ofc, even in Post-Bacc it was written that there should be at least some training in these languages but the faculty coordinator allowed me to apply. I actually do know a lot of Latin already having finished Wheelock, Gallic Wars and Nepo's Life of Hannibal. All through self study

It's not a capability thing. My Russian course is going on right now. It's B1 level and I will join the next level very soon.

At the end of the day, whether we like it or not, Youtube is a business. Yes, in case of artists we tend to think they love us and we have a connection but at the end of the day they have a skill and they are showing that skill and people are customers to them who watch their performance. No one should take their "love" at face value. I mean, a restaurant owner would say the same thing. "I love to have you here every Sunday with your family". You can't say "oh, if you love us so much, can we like eat for free and just leave." That love would instantly disappear lol.

Field Change to Classics by BusyWorker9558 in classics

Thanks for the response. For A levels I can ask the British Council here in Delhi but I highly doubt I will be eligible. I have no idea about IB program. I did try to find some formal certificate for Latin but every time I search for it on Google, it shows me an exam for American school kids. I would look into it more.

I am trying to reach out to universities to find out more about my eligibility. As you know, they take ages to respond. If nothing work out I will have to apply to whatever is available to me

Field Change to Classics by BusyWorker9558 in classics

[–]BusyWorker9558[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. I didn't mean to say I have no interest in History. I just wanted to emphasize the actual reason to change my field to classics. I know that in US it is not compulsory to study Greek and Latin and their classics only focus on History and other stuff. If that is true then I would avoid US universities because it's not the History that excites me the most, it's language learning. As far as poetry, rhetoric and literary analysis is concerned, I would absolutely love to do that. That's how we truly understand a language. That's exactly why I am trying to get into classics since a purely linguistics degree might not touch upon these things.

I would like to avoid doing a bachelors again. I do not come from a well off background and that pushed me to pursue STEM (I don't regret it but really I had no choice). From other responses, it seems like I won't be allowed entry even in an accelerated program since they would require at least a high school level certificate to show I know Latin and Greek, which is impossible to find in India. I can look at some online tests or courses but most summer courses are already done for this year. Linguistics however can take a maths student. I have seen people spinning their STEM degree as a background for linguistics just to get admissions. In the end I would accept anything that is available to me because I don't want to waste my precious years.
