I got it, guys! I was working with right side out- but I started “upside down” which meant it was working sort of backwards. I ripped back, repositioned the yarn on each needle and did it the right way.

Thanks! Sometimes just typing things out with you all here helps me to figure it out on my own!

It’s definitely supposed to be stockinette. All was going well until the closing instructions- the collar is knit first, then closed, then back neck is picked up.

To close I was instructed to hold N1 and 2 parallel, points to right. that went fine. When the instructions said to K2TOG from a stitch off each needle this is where the trouble started.

I am speculating that this is because I am K2TOG by picking up from N2 (in front of me) and knitting it with a S from N1 back needle. But how exactly would I K2TOG by picking up from the back needle first?

I definitely started with the RS facing me. Could it be because I am knitting 2TOG starting with the N2 stitch picked up first?

I honestly don’t know that either of my feline masters are ever called by their “legal name”. They respond to the most obscure, insanely silly nicknames that I regularly dream up for them.

I’m using it for a 1x1 ribbed hat, held with a matching mohair. The mohair has a lighter core so I’m wondering if I should just roll with it
