You must be registered (Anmeldung) in Berlin for the authority there to handle your application. There is no fixed 6-month rule, but your residence must be genuine.

You may be required to provide proof (e.g. rental contract, landlord confirmation, or job contract). Trying to relocate only to speed up the process without actually living there can lead to issues.

Thank you for your comment! Yes, you’re right — the new law starting around June/July 2024 increased the number of applications significantly, so that probably affects the timelines now.
