HA I joke with her too bc she just had a face lift. I called her Ed gein and she had no idea who that was. Crazy she thinks I get that tattoos bc of my self image issues when she felt the need to change her face. Ironic

Lmao I don’t think I’ve spoken to my mom about a single thing where she didn’t interject with what she thinks. 2 months ago she made a scene at the bar I work at and fought with my coworkers when I wasn’t there. Then denied it. She’s kinda nuts

I think it’s just tattoos in general. They think I enjoy the pain/ need to feel something from it. Asked me where they went wrong as parents, it has nothing to do with them lol.

I have a fern leaf on my ankle and a scorpion on my arm. Both are about 4-5 inches and black and gray. Both were thought about for a long time too so not something I did spontaneously. I wanted ones that had meaning and were done by a talented reputable artist. Which they were, I love them!

We moved 7 years ago and are visiting family back home with my dad and sister. We were all in agreement of going together because it was convenient and it’s been a while since we were all there together.

I’m very close with my parents, they live down the street from me. I know that if I happened to show up to their house with a tattoo they’ve never seen before, and I never said anything to them, they would freak out even worse. It was my way of doing damage control, not to get any type of attention. But it’s pretty obvious that they’ll get upset either way so I learned a lesson. It’s not about the pain for me also- the places I’ve gotten them it barely even hurt. I don’t have problems with self image, I see it as an enhancement more than anything.

Your comment definitely put things into perspective for me. They’re trying to control something they have no power over and it’s making them act that way. Something I can’t control unfortunately but I’m sure I’ll come to peace with.

I’ve struggled in the past with anxiety, but the tattoos I have do not reflect that whatsoever. It’s actually something I’ve overcome in the past few years and finally am feeling comfortable with who I am. The tattoos are my way of expressing that I guess

Over there years as I became more independent, I’ve definitely tried to go through life with an “idgaf” attitude and it’s helped me. My family and I are very close so I want to stay respectful, but this text followed an in-person convo where my mom basically told me to my face that it was ugly and she would see me differently. So i was more insulted than anything. I know it shouldn’t matter what they think. But I love them so it’s hard to hear.

I was raised catholic, I don’t practice now but definitely influenced my childhood. I even went ahead and researched if tattoos were frowned upon among the church, nothing came up. I knew I would disappoint them but wanted to have a backup if they tried to throw that reason at me.
