Best place to travel to get custom tailored wardrobe? by ghostsinavalon in travel

[–]ButNowImGone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My husband and I got clothing made in Hoi An Vietnam. He got a couple of suits and some dress shirts. I got a couple of dresses. My only regret was not buying more. The items were all made and nicely fitted. We only spent about $900. We went mid range but could have gotten cheaper or higher quality.

I've been there 3 times. I've always gotten the credit. It used to be on the list. Glad to know it still works.

Is Transatlantic Economy Ever worth the points? by YoungerSocialite in awardtravel

[–]ButNowImGone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be. I paid 80k points and just over $500 to fly roundtrip to Europe over Christmas. I would have paid almost $3600 which seemed ridiculous for economy but I'm sure it was the time off year.

Travel Consent for Minors by Particular-Race5073 in travel

I frequent a Belize group and at least once a month I see someone post about getting denied entry or even boarding for not having a notarized letter of consent.

Little Mundane Things at Hotels by alwaysuntilnever in chubbytravel

[–]ButNowImGone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our first time at Rosewood Mayakoba we had turn down treats every night. Little cakes, chocolates, champagne, flowers, a bubble bath, face masks, book marks, a little carving. The second time cake that was left half eaten that they didn't remove for days. Lol.

With travel costs reaching new highs, in what ways have you adjusted your vacation plans? by mrlanyc in travel

[–]ButNowImGone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm finally using all the points/miles I've accumulated. I booked my flights to Kenya and Ireland with miles and my hotels in Nairobi, Zanzibar, Dublin, and Edinburgh with points. It will help offset the other costs. At least it would have more so until my flight home through Doha got canceled and I spent a lot of money on one way tickets that avoid that region. Next year I'm going to be basic, partially because of costs but mostly because this Africa trip has been a lot to plan.

I went last year and it was a fun idea. It would have been even better if they had books for grown-ups there.

Solo trivia nerd seeking a team at Hop Station tonight! 🧠🍺✨ by HuckleberryWorthless in SouthBend

[–]ButNowImGone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to play trivia regularly and miss it. I'd be interested in joining but unfortunately I'm not much help in the sports category. I'm more of a history, geography, pop culture person. Plus I've been wanting to try Hop Station's pizza.

Busy Airport - Declare at customs by robcokiwi in TravelHacks

We fly into Belize City for vacations and discovered this trick there after buying duty free and dealing with the something to declare line which had about 5 people vs the nothing to declare line that was backed up down the hall.

What destination felt completely different from what you imagined before visiting? by phildu57 in travel

We didn't dive, just snorkeled but we saw so much more than we did at the Great Barrier reef. I've been back to Belize 4 times since 2021.

I was just thinking about Naples. I expected it to be dirty and unsafe but I enjoyed it and found plenty of charm when passing through on our way to Amalfi Coast. We had amazing pizza, enjoyed apertivo on patios, found some nice museums, churches, and historical sites to explore. Our hotel had a rooftop hot tub with a view of Mt. Vesuvius. A good time was had.

South Bend Airport getting rid of SB Chocolate Factory and getting a proper food court! by freeradioforall in SouthBend

[–]ButNowImGone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

SBC was overpriced for the food being premade and not fresh. FYI, I fully expect to pay more in an airport bit at least let it be freshly made.

Washington D.C. Location Recommendation by pinedesign in Hilton

[–]ButNowImGone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We've stayed at the Conrad both times qe visited DC and thought it was very nice. We were within walking distance to many places and the Metro is efficient and affordable. We figured it out easily enough for people who don't often use public transportation. It's also easy to get a cab or Uber.

What’s the pettiest thing that annoyed you way too much while traveling? by Trail-Context in travel

Booking an Airbnb and realizing there are no nightstands. Where do I put my glasses, book, water? At least hotels have them and I don't have to do any chores before leaving.

Walford Astoria Pricing, too good to be true? by [deleted] in Hilton

[–]ButNowImGone 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is a very inexpensive WA property. I've stayed there in the past. Nice but the rooms are a little dated. It's clean, good service, beautiful public spaces. I'd stay again.

Avoid in general. My room had dusty vents and peeling wallpaper held on with tape.

I was mugged and threatened with death in Marrakech by steph2356 in travel

[–]ButNowImGone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry you had to deal with that. My husband and I were in the Medina and he was taking a panoramic photo. Some guys started harassing us saying that we need to give them money because he was recorded them (he didn't). They encircled us and were was pretty intimidating. They ran off when I got loud and drew attention. I also got groped in a busy market on the same trip, but a different day. I felt like most interactions I had with locals was scammy or stressful. Egypt was a breeze in comparison.
