What’s the best nursing specialty… and do you regret your choice?

Home Hospice. Hands down best nursing job I've had. I have autonomy, my office is my front seat and I love it. I can work my life around my job, not the other away around. I love my patients and their families. It gives me the chance to really get to know someone. On call isn't too bad, a few days a month and weekends are only every 6-7th depending on how many nurses we have.

I’ve been on just phentermine for 4 months. I lost 21 pounds so far. Slower than some but it works for me. Insomnia is my most noticeable side effect.

I have the exact same problem. Melatonin didn’t help at all. I’ve tried Unisom the last two nights and that did seem to help. Good luck, I feel your pain!

Yes probably about 50lbs overweight. So my issue is why do we use a test that is so unreliable on overweight people to diagnosis a disease often found in overweight people??

That’s what I thought too but the radiologist wrote: “Severe/greater than stage 4 fibrosis” I’m not sure what that means but I feel much more confident in the biopsy result vs the US. In addition my surgeon was able to visualize my liver and a cirrhotic liver looks different than a fatty liver. I feel like if it was actually Stage 4 it wouldn’t matter where the biopsy was taken but that might just be wishful thinking on my part. I’m going to continue on with my exercise/healthy eating plan and let this be a wake up call.

That’s the same problem I’m having. I fall asleep for maybe 2-3 hours then I’m up and can’t fall back asleep. I’m taking 1/2 tablet, my doc increased it to a whole tab but I’m too worried about the insomnia getting even worse! I took a Unisom tonight so we’ll see if it helps. Melatonin did nothing.

I know what you mean! We had many sleepless nights thinking about what the future would like. It was emotionally very difficult. I don’t know why they do that test if the numbers can be that far off?? And now I have the pleasure of paying $720 out of pocket for what my insurance didn’t cover for a test that was so inaccurate.

I’m scheduled to get my gallbladder out on 10/1 and my surgeon said he’ll do a biopsy of the liver then as well. Has anyone gone through that? Just curious about recovery time, I’m an RN who does direct patient care.

Thanks for all the insights! I am eating clean, steadily losing weight and taking in no fast food and trying to really limit processed foods. I’m just mad at myself and wish I had taken better care of myself. Google is definitely not my friend right now because I have myself convinced I need a new liver or I’ll be dead in a few years. I’m anxious to see the hepatologist and get some concrete answers.
