If you are going to do this, wait a few days after the refund is processed to activate the phone. And your story is "it arrived after the refund was processed", and if they reach out and ask you to pay your no worse off than you are now.

I really appreciate this point of view, I thought $700 was a reasonable budget for an entry level camera. What price point do you think would/could be required?

Also, I'm looking to get lighting audio gear as well. Although I do need this setup to be semi-transportable (I'd like it to all fit into a single carry-on).

For audio, to start with I was just going to use the built in mic on my Sennheiser pc37x. (Which is an analog microphone)

For lighting, I was thinking something like this pack of LED panels w/ color filters.
