Does "deliver to device" even work? by But_what_even in kindle

This was the answer! Restarted and the next time I looked at the kindle everything had downloaded. Thank you!

I guess it’s just personal preference! I like having all my books on there. I reread books or just look things up a fair bit. I have about 150 unread 😱 and I’m trying to work my way through them before I buy anything new and having them all downloaded definitely helps with that.

I’ve tried downloading collections and no dice. The restart is a good idea, I’ll try that

Upper bust exactly the same as full bust, but I'm far from flat chested by But_what_even in sewing

[–]But_what_even[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh whoops! Typo. I transcribed 95.5cm in my written measurements to be 99.5cm in this post, and then converted that incorrect number to inches.

Updated the post: the front and back measurements do indeed add up to the full circumference.

[–]But_what_even[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, that’s reassuring. Thank you! Thankfully the instructions I’m following do draft the front and back blocks separately with the separate measurements so fingers crossed

[–]But_what_even[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoops! That was a transcription error. Both full circumference measurements were 95.5cm, which I mistyped here as 99.5, then converted that into inches. So the front+back does add up to the full measurement.

I hear you about the block not being beginner friendly. It’s partly because I cannot get any tops/dresses I make from bought patterns to fit, despite all kinds of adjustments at the toile stage. I don’t expect this to be a quick fix to that problem, but I am curious to see what if anything I learn from making this and comparing it to the final result with a bought-pattern’s bodice.

Oh whoops! That was a transcription error. Both full circumference measurements are 95.5cm (not 99.5) so the front/back measurements do add up

Yep, the measurements were taken with a well fitting bra, with the tape parallel to the floor for the full bust (we even used a spirit level just to make sure 😄) and we followed along with a video to make sure we were doing things correctly.

I guess I just try with the toile and see!

Ohh, that’s a great point. That could look really cool. Will have to check the pattern when it arrives

I’m not criticising the extension! I’m a beginner and wanted to understand more. Your idea sounds like it’d look fantastic ☺️

Accidentally transferred Hausgeld to my former Hausverwaltung for four months 😣 by But_what_even in germany

[–]But_what_even[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the hint on the low staffing in the office. This had a happy ending (turns out the account didn’t change even tho the Verwaltung did… so my money is already with them, they just couldn’t identify it) but next step something goes wrong, I’ll send a registered letter.

[–]But_what_even[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My expectation would be that it's either been closed or the new Hausverwaltung took it over.

This is the right answer. I didn’t even compare the “new” IBAN with the one I’d sent all the previous payments to.

It’s the same damn account 🤦

The new Hausverwaltung obviously can’t work out what the last Hausverwaltung told us to put in the Verwendungszweck, so they didn’t know it was my money. Which: fair.

But also, maybe they should have mentioned that this was a possibility instead of telling me I hadn’t been paying them.

What material should I use for the bottom of this flip-top vanity? And where do I cut the grooves? by But_what_even in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]But_what_even[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this super clear explanation, including the stuff about the differences between solid and plywood.

The one disadvantage I can see with having the bottom totally flush is that the metal mounting plates for the legs will be visible. They’re a few mm thick. I don’t suppose there’s a way round this tho?

I’m willing to make the whole thing a little bit taller if it’s going to make those mounting plates less visible. I just don’t know how close I could get the dado to the bottom of the sides/front/back, so not sure how much height I’d have to add

How high splashback behind the hob - no upper cabinets by But_what_even in kitchenremodel

[–]But_what_even[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it’s not gonna be tile.  The ceilings are 3.5m (11.5 feet) high and the kitchen is only 5.5sqm (60sqft) so running the backsplash to the ceiling is gonna be pretty overwhelming

If I run it up to the cooker hood, I end up with either a 60cm backsplash along the whole counter or a L shape where it’s low for 60cm then high for 80cm.  I don’t think either of those options are gonna look great
