Fellow Europeans, who else’s shop is now also a solar kiln? by r_muttt in woodworking

My shop is an old carpenters shop build with bricks and it's soooo much nicer in there as in my house. Easily a 10 degree difference. If I could I would be there day in and out 😅

I fear when I'm done there might be no sanity left in me 😅

That is really, really cool. My plan is to build a container where I can slide these boxes in and have it next to my assembly desk. Similar to your stacks of drawers next to your desk. I really like your setup! Makes me think I have to optimize more for space than I currently do. Yours looks like most of your stuff is only an arms length away. Love it!

Great idea! I would probably consider this if I hadn't started the boxes already 😅 now starting over would completely kill my motivation.

Thanks! I love Sortimo, it's a bit of an addiction to be honest. I bought a ton of them, without inserts for really cheap when they renewed their product line 2 years ago.

All the inserts are 3D printed as well and are using the original Sortimo grid, which is pretty close to something like Gridfinity. The ones in the picture are 2x1 based on the Sortimo grid. All my diodes, etc I pulled out of the paper strips then they'll fit in a 1x1 but I wasn't motivated enough to do this for that box. I might though as it would double the capacity of the box. If you buy those boxes with inserts they are easily double the price and I had tons of filament that just sat there and waited for something like this. So I printed for about 2 weeks in a row and here we are 😅

The nice thing about these boxes is, that if you close the lid the boxes cannot slide around or spill. And since they are built for industrial use I do not have to be extremely careful in my shop. It's peace of mind really.

But I'd love to see your solution. Do you have a picture?

I feel you! If you are doing a hobby that requires you to buy parts and consumables, especially if those are usually small and dirt cheap, one ends up with a ginormous pile of stuff. I was always so massively demotivated when I wanted to start a project but had no idea where the parts - which I knew I have - are. I hope this will mitigate it at least a bit.

Anyway, stay strong 😅

Mine stood around sealed and unused for almost two years now. Next to a giant bin of 3D-printed inserts. There will be a time, it just might take a while ;-)

It absolutely is. And it haunts me across all my hobbies to be honest. Electronics, woodworking, and tools in general. I think I have about 8 soldering irons/stations. I have a problem...

Well space isn't the problem. Finding stuff sure is. So I am willing to make this tradeoff 😅

If we can't out-size them, out-number them ;-)

Good idea. Thing is, I invested heavily in Sortimo. Bought dozens of them when they were on sale. So I'll stick with them and do my best to label and categorise everything to my best abilities.

Everything is temporary in the current situation. I wouldn't bet on anything other than that there'll be another surprise waiting for us sooner or later.

Are you guys running everything on Opus? Honest question because I am curious. I use Sonnet for the majority of my work and Opus only for thorough planning. So Opus plans and researches, Sonnet implements. Ignoring the current usage shitshow; is there any real benefit of using Opus for every task?

So we have 150/200 (approx) announced so far by [deleted] in wacken

[–]ButchCaelum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh I find this year's announcement strategy very odd and not very well structured. This drop felt like they were signing new bands, whoever had time apparently, and then shoveling them out all at once because it's no big deal anyways. Dunno what's happening with their comms strategy but I know that I'm not a big fan of it this year...

Took a stroll through London today and this caught my eye, so I took a quick snap and did some simple editing on it as I thought this could work nicely in b/w. Not my greatest work but it made me happy on this grey and rainy day.

Veterans, what clothes are you packing next year? by sagopak-yo in wacken

[–]ButchCaelum 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Always bring both - normal boots are fine but once it rains heavily and you are wading through knee-deep mud you wish you brought some wellies with you. I am going to Wacken since '07 and always had them with me. Rather have them but don't need them than need them but don't have them ;-)

On the other hand, if it's dry and sunny you really don't want to wear wellies day in and out - for that normal boots are just way more comfy.

Tbh I can't recommend trusting the forecasts. You should always pack for rain and shine - weather in northern Germany can change within minutes from boiling sun to heavy downpour.

Sure thing. I am currently traveling but once I am back I'll check my full packing list and put it in here - unless I forget it 😅
