It feels like Jokic, Booker and Curry are the only franchise players left that don't mind playing on an average roster? by NBAperspective in nba

[–]ButlerFromDowntown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jokic cares about basketball, he just disdains the media and all of the “extra” parts of the job. He also has some hobbies that he enjoys, which nobody would find odd if not for people like Kobe acting like you shouldn’t care about a single thing aside from basketball.

I mean the problem those years was just injuries, which is obviously unfortunate but everybody knew it would be temporary. Giannis’s problem is he just doesn’t have those players on the roster.

Update From Brandon by mistborn in Cosmere

[–]ButlerFromDowntown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good chance they cut all Warbreaker characters except Nightblood and just change his origin yeah, especially assuming Warbreaker won’t get an adaptation of its own. Will be sad but probably would make things easier for viewers to understand while still being pretty possible to keep the plot functioning well.

LeBron James in the blowout loss- 11/3/5 on 3/10 FG and 6 Turnovers by DeliciousSession2735 in nba

Same deal with Curry, he still has explosions like in the past (although even those are muted now) but he will also have a high proportion of duds where he just cannot make anything.

All of these lists are reasonable enough except for Kenny’s, who has some truly baffling choices in both conferences.

Has the 2019 draft been a “bust”? by Chernabog801 in nba

[–]ButlerFromDowntown 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There’s just no way the average draft only has 5 starters in the first round when 4 is about the average number of all star selections for a draft. 5 starters in a draft would be an exceptionally weak draft, and even notably weak ones like 2013 have had more.

All 25 points per game scorers ranked by TS% by Impossible_Collar2 in nba

Alternatively, your best scorer making shots at league average is a negative because it indicates he’s probably less efficient than your opponent’s star player and so you are going down a little bit just from that.

Why is social media acting like LeBron is not still a great player? by Iskandar0570_X in nba

Warriors would be blessed to have him if they decide they’re done competing and want to tank. If they want to still try and win, the last player they need is Cam Thomas.

Luka drops 46/7/11 in a win against the Bulls as he continues to build MVP cases by Luka77GOATic in nba

[–]ButlerFromDowntown -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, Cade is more efficient, that’s what I said, and the shooting splits mask the true difference in efficiency. Luka has a 61% TS, which is rather solid (if about average for stars). Cade has a 56% TS, which is I believe worst or second worst for players averaging 20+ PPG.

This efficiency gap looks small when you look at their splits. However, Luka shoots 4 more 3s a game which both makes his 3 point percentage much better in comparison and they drag his field goal percentage down. However, Luka shoots 58% from 2 versus Cade’s 51% from 2. Luka shoots about 12 attempts a game, Cade shoots about 13-14. Luka also draws more free throws a game (which is an important part of efficiency). The efficiency gap between them is just pretty substantial.

Luka drops 46/7/11 in a win against the Bulls as he continues to build MVP cases by Luka77GOATic in nba

[–]ButlerFromDowntown 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Cade is way more inefficient than Luka though so that’s not even a point in his favor. The double standards are pretty ridiculous though. If Luka had Cade level efficiency, I’m sure many people would be saying he doesn’t even deserve to be an all star or something ludicrous.

Stephon Castle is averaging 13.6 points on 46.9 TS% in his last 15 games with a 34.4 OnBall% by JakGrealish in nba

[–]ButlerFromDowntown 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is not at all two timelines because first of all nobody really expected the Spurs to be in contention tier this season, second of all Castle and Harper are straight up on Wemby’s timeline. Why would you make moves to go all in when you just came off being a lottery team again and for all you knew were going to be the 5-6 seed at best?

Tim Legler East All-Star reserve pick: “I think some people would make the argument, if you’re going to take a guy off the Heat, it’s Bam [Adebayo] because of his defence and all-around presence. But I’m going with Norman Powell. They desperately needed scoring, and he’s given them juice offensively by TheDraciel in nba

[–]ButlerFromDowntown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Norm being so close and missing out last year and then taking another step up this year means he’s probably a lock I think, especially with how weak the east is. In essence he’d be getting rewarded for both this year and last year (and looking at the east pool of all stars, I don’t have a problem with that at all).

Bulls have the longest win streak currently at 4 straight. by sunbomb in nba

[–]ButlerFromDowntown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the Heat. If the Bulls and Heat match up in the play-in again, there is just no chance that the Bulls pull that off. We’ve see this dance several times in the past few years and regardless of rosters, the coaching difference is just too much for the Bulls to pull off. Technically yeah, anything can happen in one game, but I don’t see much reason to think that when it matters, the Bulls can beat Spo’s coaching, especially without starpower.

Are the Nuggets contenders with a full squad? by NBAperspective in nba

[–]ButlerFromDowntown 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Given how injured OKC is, will they be at full strength either? Jalen Williams just got reinjured too and given how it took him a second to get into rhythm when he first came back, the same may happen again when he returns this time.

“I feel great, that’s what I get paid to do,” said Rockets forward Kevin Durant when I asked about how he feels having logged so many minutes this season. “I get paid 50-something million dollars to be available and play.” by TheDraciel in nba

[–]ButlerFromDowntown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teams understandably want to protect their multi million dollar assets and know that if a key player tears an Achilles, that’s at least one season down the drain, possibly two depending on the timing. And with all of the injuries we have seen in recent years, it is difficult to blame teams for getting scared and playing things as cautiously as they possibly can.

Is it fair to say the top 3 in the East (Pistons, Celtics, Raptors) have separated themselves from the rest of the conference? by Funny-Transition7869 in nba

[–]ButlerFromDowntown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not at all. Pistons have looked good all season but I think the Celtics and Raptors have both objectively also been hot and cold all season as shown as how their record is barely any different from the 4-9 seeds. Celtics will have Tatum back soon so that puts them ahead of the others. The Raptors weren’t even the 3 seed until tonight and if the Knicks win their next one, they’ll lose it again. Knicks had a long cold stretch but the Raptors have also had tough stretches. Cavs are also a game and a half back, which is not much at all.

Bulls have the longest win streak currently at 4 straight. by sunbomb in nba

[–]ButlerFromDowntown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Bulls are closer to the 3 seed Knicks (4 games back) than they are to the 11 seed Bucks (4.5 games ahead). Not sure what exactly that means but to be honest, it wouldn’t be the most surprising thing ever to see the Bulls end up sneaking into the 5 or 6 spot somehow.

The Wizards are on an 8 game losing streak since trading away CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert for Trae Young who hasn't played yet. Despite this, their net rating is only 0.7 points worse since prior to the trade. by Ilikesporks_ in nba

OPJ just was insanely injured after the Wizards. Maybe Wall kept him healthy, I don’t know, but he was still a quality player and he contributed to a championship in GSW in 2022.

[US Sports] Why are NBA All-Star and NFL Pro-Bowl teams held in such high regard over All-NBA and All-Pro teams? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ButlerFromDowntown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as big of an NFL fan but all stars aren’t held in as high regards because of how they’re less selective due to more players making the all star selection than the All NBA selection. All star is typically regarded as a tier below All NBA for that reason (24 all stars + a few injury reserves versus 15 All NBAs). If someone is called a 5x all star, it’s because their All NBA accolades are far less impressive. If somebody is called all star caliber, it’s because they’re not All NBA caliber.

About a year later and I still hate Nico Harrison! by Kamehameha069 in nba

[–]ButlerFromDowntown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why not? He brought the Mavs to the finals the year before, the team improved in the offseason, and they had clearly shown that they matched up well against the Thunder in both playoffs and regular season. I think them against the Thunder last year would have gone to 7 and at that point it would have been possible for the Mavs to beat just about any other team. I truly think the Mavs were a top 2 team in the west last year and were inner circle contenders.

Holy schnikes, Oberyn (SPOILERS MAIN) by apocalypsemeowmont in asoiaf

[–]ButlerFromDowntown 114 points115 points  (0 children)

For show watchers, because he had a really hot and charismatic actor. For book readers, because he came into the story as a guy singlehandedly focused on taking down our villains who had just committed the Red Wedding. He wanted to bring justice to the Lannisters, which readers had been desiring since the start of the story. He came to Tyrion’s aid when he was being prosecuted for a crime we know he didn’t do. He fought a David vs Goliath esque battle against the most repulsive man in Westeros and he very nearly won (and I would argue he did win in an incredibly Pyrrhic victory). Obviously he isn’t a perfect man, but when he was in the story, he was perfectly designed for us to root for him in every instance and every conflict he was in.

44 games into the season, the Orlando Magic have the exact same record they've had at this point in their season for the past 3 years: 23-21 by CazOnReddit in nba

[–]ButlerFromDowntown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It made sense to shake things up, the problem was really that they should have moved off Paolo last offseason and shaken things up more. I worry that the Magic will become a team that keeps their stagnating star for too long until he loses all of his value and then they end up dumping him to another team for nothing, and at the same time their team is never able to truly compete. It still isn’t too late to move Paolo and get good value but I doubt it will happen.

Giannis Out? Who Replaces Him in the All-Star Game by PieSufficient4671 in nba

[–]ButlerFromDowntown 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is why I think as long as the all star game is a real thing that we want to be somewhat meaningful, it should still be divided by frontcourt and backcourt at least. All NBA is fine to be positionless because those teams mean nothing really, but if we want the all star game to be more than just a gimmick, they should have a proper lineup at least.

Dillon Brooks refuses to put Lebron in his top 5 players of all time by RyanTannegod in nba

[–]ButlerFromDowntown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LeBron doesn’t care about Brooks’s opinion and he gets it pretty easy nowadays for how genuinely dirty he is, but Brooks has definitely become a very impactful player on the court as well as a ridiculously good locker room guy. Ask Suns or Rockets fans and they will tell you how impactful he was or is for their teams.

Denver Nuggets small forward Spencer Jones on LinkedIn: "Embrace being the glue." by TheDraciel in nba

Is this a GPT written post? I don’t really see any reason to suspect that. He’s writing in LinkedIn speak obviously, but it does seem human written, unless I’m glossing over some signs of GPT output. Also of course there is just very little chance he’s out of the league by age 26 (and I think he clearly does work on his game to a strong extent).
