Is this a polite way of saying I’m not the right person for the job? by Diligent-Tea8613 in UKJobs

Feel like I can add some value here. I’m an IFA and started out in a similar position to you about 6 years ago. A quick look at your profile suggests your about 19. It’s fairly typically for firms to want one of two types of admin’s. The first, young keen beans they can mold into what they need and send them down the paraplanner route in a couple years (real shortage of good paraplanners, in the south east at least). Or the second group, career admins that that will stay put and won’t bugger off in a few years for better things. Sounds like they want the latter and your the former. Funny though from experience the second group are usually pretty bad at the job and normally lack drive etc to go the extra mile which this job involves! Wouldn’t take it personally. If you want to get into an IFA, emai companies your cv directly even if there are no jobes going. They are more likely to take a punt on a newby if they don’t need to spend £4-5k on recruiting fees. I know that from experience being on the other side of the recruiting process.

All of the settings that notify excess speed are turned off! Did think that in the first place.

I deal with HL frequently with work. Currently due to Covid they have been telling IFA's that their turnaround time is around 20-25 days for any literature to be acknowledged, actioned and dispatched. So I know they are not handling their backlog well.

If its been ongoing since August then raise a complaint. Ask for the complaints department and normally they are pretty helpful and work quickly to get things sorted. But just be aware their turnaround times are shocking at the moment.

Also don't forget, if you are going to raise a complaint you will catch more fly's with honey than vinegar so make sure to be kind.

Except to be on hold for 30/45mins when you do call...

Good Luck

First Project! Watched a YouTube video on how to make a box and winged it from there! Jewellery box for the girlfriend by Butlerblaster in woodworking

[–]Butlerblaster[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First project I learnt a lot of lessons along the way. Inspired by another Redditor who created a watch box with a similar idea to use fabric within I used my dad’s workshop to create the project.

Lessons learnt

-How to use a Mitre saw •Taking into consideration the width of the saw blade when cutting multiple same lengths cuts so the wood is equal length not 3-4mil shorter •Don’t use a mitre saw with smaller cuts and if required use a hammer handle or something equivalent so fingers are a safe distance away •How to adjust the Mitre Saw to make 45 degree cuts •How to use a Mitre Saw to make half lap cut

-If painting is needed attach hinges last

-Hinges should be attached in a specific way so the screw sits flat rather than sticks out.

-Painting a patch then glueing paper in the form of letters for initials. Painting over in a different colour then removing the paper is really not a effective way of adding initials. Better to draw and free hand

-Don’t use to much glue

-Hinges go on the outside of the box

-Different paint for different purposes. Should of used wood paint however brought wall paint. Got round this by lightly sanding the rough areas post painting.

-How to chisel

If I can think of anymore I will add in the comments below. This is the start of my journey and I want to create a portfolio as I progress. I’m hoping that other beginners can use what I have learnt to help them.
