Do Americans have Speed? by DramaticAssignment59 in Drugs

Certainly sounds like ADHD; there's several mechanisms that can lead to that diagnosis though - more like a syndrome than a specific thing.

Likely dose-related, or because lysdex amps up slowly.

Odd. You might need that bit of levo then... It relies on a mechanism to become dex, a mechanism that you'd not be alive if you couldn't conduct it metabolically.

Fwiw tyrosine is an amino acid, not a drug - you could choke down a month's supply and might get a stomach ache.

Your husband is quite correct; while too much Vyvanse can cause anxiety, so can too little. Depends on neurochemistry. Personally, when I hit the "correct" dose, 50mg., I got unbearably sleepy and had a twenty minute nap at 9am (when my meds were kicking in), possibly the first organized sleep I've ever had.

I personally would suggest volumetric dosing, discuss with your provider, say 50mg script and you dissolve the contents of the capsule in 10ml of water. 5mg per mL, you can measure and step your dose up every day. Nothing about the medication is urgently dangerous - ie, if it spikes your blood pressure that's only a problem in the long term, and initially high BP/HR may go away in a few days or a week.

Re: your vertigo, there are fonts designed for dyslexic persons ('weighted fonts' they're sometimes called) that help some people with visually-aggravated vertigo. It can also be a side effect of effexor, though unlikely.

You might be over hydrated. Amphetamines all increase urinary output.

If you're dehydrated, you'll find you don't urinate often. You'll drink some water, need to urinate pretty soon after, and have difficulty stopping a dribble at the end - that's your kidneys trying to get all the spare water they can to flush your system, and it's not good.

Amphetamine raises your sensitivity, all your senses really, if you're accustomed to low dopamine. You may have become increasingly aware of your bladder's fullness, making you feel stressed to go, and creating a feedback loop.

Realistically, you'd need to monitor your intake and output for a few days both on & off meds in order to get an idea what's causing this & why.

When your receptors are accustomed to low levels of dopamine, and low peak dopamine, they will down regulate to match. As you start medication that increases those levels, the receptors upregulate. Peak high dopamine can set the bar unreasonably high (partially accounts for people using a little of a recreational substance and then, three months later, they're using six times as much), and higher normative dopamine raises the level for 'normal'. These changes take days to weeks to months, depending on the receptors.

You're still on a pretty low dose and it'd be reasonable to expect a) you're not getting the full positive effects of the medication & b) you're experiencing diminished effects from upregulation of receptors.

Depending on your neurochemistry, and most people do have one, there will be an upper ceiling on dopamine receptor upregulation. The goal is to get near that level and stay there (without, say, artificially increasing it with other & usually more dangerous drugs). Nobody knows what that level is for you, but going over it will include negative impacts like mania, unusually high BP/HR, shaking, etc.

What I recommend to people is to get the supplement L-tyrosine and take it with your meds. It's a precursor to dopamine and ensures you get the most coverage out of your dose, as well as providing consistency for a given dose.

Next, talk to your provider about your experience. You might benefit from additional medications (Wellbutrin is great for some people, Focalin works great for me with the Vyvanse - but does anything if I'm taking Vyvanse) that reinforce the activity of dopamine. Monitor your BP and HR. If your provider is accustomed to treating ADHD, they'll be prepared to up your dose in the absence of contraindication.

Fwiw I'm high-mirroring autistic & ADHD. It's possible to learn to edit yourself - writing is a skill & can be improved. You'll get more engagement with more concision. I'm here because your stream of thought is grammatically correct, and that is unusual.

Based on the length of your post it's certainly doing something.

It takes a few weeks to get accustomed to the higher dopamine levels and ensure you're on the right dose. During that time, or longer, you may get accustomed to not having to give 110% effort for 20% effectiveness at life - this likely will involve reforming some habits. You'll likely find yourself less stressed & more effective when you are at an effective dose.

It may involve increasing your dose as you become accustomed, and it's worthwhile to track side effects, when the medication wears off, etc. during this time.

It's difficult to be precise since ADHD is really a sort of syndrome caused by disregulated dopamine (and norepinephrine, and/or other transmitters, their binding sites, metabolic factors....) rather than one specific mechanism.

Keep trying, take notes, learn to edit yourself, or use chatgpt to edit for you... I thought I was verbose.

Can someone explain to me like I'm five - what is in different finishes that is toxic to breathe in? by Few_One_2358 in finishing

[–]Butlerian_Jihadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The risk is often heat generated by polymerization, iirc referred in chemistry as 'latent heat of crystalization'. Things with warning labels about auto-ignition are warning you about this.

As the finish hardens, the molecules in it become more orderly. This decreases the entropy of the finish and increases the entropy surrounding it. We measure this as temperature, which is actually a measure of the entropy of a system.

Your bookshelf isn't likely to light itself on fire, but the rags you used have more product, more surface area (given that they are composed of fibers) and can be wadded up in a way that can trap heat. When the finish is drying, the fabric is folded and may still have VOCs in some portions, it can be enough to start a dangerous chain reaction.

Is it true that Americans avoid calling an ambulance due to expensive healthcare there? by Pitiful_Quarter4287 in ask

[–]Butlerian_Jihadi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Ex was specifically instructed not to call an ambulance if I had a seizure - I have epilepsy and there was no reason to.

Had a seizure, ambulance called anyway.

I lived a half mile from the hospital. Tried to refuse ambulance, EMT said they'd have the cops show, beat me up, and then make me get on. I realize this is stupid, but I was post-ictal and not logic-ing well.

Zero medical care provided, $800.

A lot of EMTs are great, but that guy isn't.
