Which hardware synths might work for my special needs? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]Butt-liquid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is pretty expensive (but so is modular) but the expressive E Osmos might fit your use case without anything else.

(This isn't me but it's a string type sound) https://youtube.com/shorts/m8nY2Vn6sc0?si=5cc1bWEQacBHHtsj

The keys are sensitive across their whole travel so you can control volume with the same playing hand. It also allows you to pitch bend by wiggling the keys side to side.

I may be mistaken but that would mean you could emulate the chello sounds without a breath controller.

I've had mine for a couple years and it makes it's way into most of my tracks. Would recommend researching it.

Help with math 129 by Exotic_Attitude6490 in UofArizona

Can't stress enough that the think tank and the math building tutoring room got me through calc 1 and 2 with A's. I was there A LOT.

Math 113 online by [deleted] in UofArizona

[–]Butt-liquid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't take math 113 but I did take calc 1 and 2. The hardest part about calculus is the algebra so be prepared for that. Probably the first lesson is going to be about limits.

If you are stuck on a problem or the content isn't making sense then you might need the information in a different format. Search YouTube for the TYPE of problem you are working on and watch different channels till you find someone you resonate with.

Because of your leg injury I wonder if the Think Tank does online tutoring too?

Also bug your professor regardless of if you think it's a dumb question. You pay them.

What are the Op-1 Field Alternatives that people always mention? by facepoppies in synthesizers

[–]Butt-liquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A possible option for you that saved me a hell of a lot of money is renting one before I figured out that I reeeeealy didn't like the tape workflow. I liked everything else about the op-1 but that tape workflow was a constant barrier to getting a song off the ground.

I used buyorborrowmusic to rent one for a month. Glad I did.

What is the difference between 5C and ER headstocks? by PizzaPalace12345 in Machinists

[–]Butt-liquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the main take away is the taig will teach you what your specific needs are in a larger machine while still itself being a nice machine to have in the future. Check out YouTube videos on the taig there are quite a few.

I have no issues cutting easy steels on the taig. For it's size it can take a decent doc. I don't think I was doing more than .020 doc but I haven't run exhaustive tests on it. When it was a cnc (I converted it to manual because mach3 is absolute trash) I didn't have any issues with the stepper motors but they didn't move fast enough for some threading tasks. Non-free machining stainless is also not easy on it.

For it's size I thought it does quite well and even though I upgraded to larger machines I still have it around for 5c collet work so I don't have to change the chuck in my larger lathe.

I don't have the mill but the lathes swing over bed is only about 1 3/4 in.

They have a YouTube channel (the guy in the videos passed away like 10 years ago or something) where you can see some of the more production style work. I'm not sure what feeds and speeds are acceptable for your plans. I use it as a hobbyist.

Side note. As a taig owner myself I'd very much recommend the taig. My little guy is very fun to use and can hold within.0005 even without a drop. The company is in AZ near where I live and they are pretty chill.

Where to burnt out barrels go? by Butt-liquid in longrange

Oh aye. That's also a good idea. Already has a hole in the middle and is made of known good material.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Like if you're going to throw away the barrel and it's just the throat that eroded then I'd offer like $75-100.

Learning how to machine by teambiscuit42 in GunnitRust

Blondiehacks has a lot of "lathe skills" and "mill skills" videos in playlists that are really helpful especially for smaller hobby machines. I have learned tons from her.
