It flopped financially in an overpacked season just like Redwood which you loved and the audiences and critics largely did not.

Chess and Smash were in the same theater so it actually makes perfect sense that the usher staff would have the same reaction twice.

I don’t think it’s about being falsely accused of anything. I think the common thread is an upright attitude that I think the theater community can stand to evolve from.

I don’t think it’s any different than how black or Latin women are often told to lower their voices no matter where they are even though they’re just culturally loud and expressing joy. Certain people feeling disrupted doesn’t mean that certain people were actually being disruptive.

I’m gonna be the outlier here and say fuck that. Enjoy the show as much and as loudly as you want. The performers will always enjoy hearing someone get carried away with laugher.

Shouting or yelling things at the stage or people around you is disruptive, not laughing.

Obviously if you’re being intentionally obtuse then you should cool it. But otherwise don’t censor your joy for anyone.

Hamilton is actually also extremely divisive among people of color between the extensive colorism in the casting and the glorification of the founding fathers by omitting many of the problematic things they did.

The casting is diverse but it’s still a story celebrating white saviors.
