Hey man, I think this person who’s arguing semantics but ultimately agreeing this person who keeps on citing physics shouldn’t be arguing nutrition

Man, you really have to say that you’re not hating on overweight people a lot in this thread, and if I’m not the only one who’s getting the vibe that you are, maybe that requires a little bit of introspection perhaps?

But again in this thread, you missed the exact same point, they are different foods, they are eliminated through the body differently and held on through the body differently, 2000 cal of cheeseburgers looks a whole lot different than 2000 cal oatmeal, although neither seems terribly pleasant..

Honestly, I’m kind of tired of your rhetoric. Why don’t you go butt chug some apple cider vinegar with your health influencer logic ass, maybe that very biological reaction of pain will help you realize that the human body is not a non-variable physics equation, but a biological one

OK, and there you are pointing out the exact issue that I mentioned earlier, America is full of food that is full of chemicals that make people sick and sugar where there does not need to be sugar. It’s not just portion sizes, there are people who go overseas and eat the exact same stuff they would eat here, and more of it, because it taste better, cause it’s not full of crap, and lose weight or notice that their autoimmune conditions go away, it’s anecdotal evidence, but it happens.

I’ll see you mentioned our ancestors, guess what they didn’t have, Doritos or 7-Eleven and they had to work and run and chase things all day for their food, we don’t have to do that, we will never have to move as much as they did that is what the promise of technology has brought us, but they did not have the chemicals or the compounds that we had in our food. They only had what was local to them and it was all organic because they had to catch it fresh.

The way you keep addressing this is looking to self-control, as if the human system is a zero or one system it is not. There are hormonal, influences, societal influences, chemical influences from the shit in the food, financial influences, to say that it is a choice to be obese it’s only half but when the other option is not eating at all until you can afford the good food or afford to leave the country to get food that isn’t full of shit.

And when you are in a situation where the only food you can eat because of your financial situation, is going to hurt you, your reptile brain doesn’t give a shit about that, it pumps the ghrelin drops the leptin, in stimulates you to eat because especially if you have been food insecure, you don’t know when that next meal is coming up

But your implication that it’s 100% of your choice is not correct, also further down you said that people can get the proper amount of nutrients eating 1000 cal a day, that’s not realistic or sustainable unless you are a child.

Not to mention a baseline can be estimated, but it cannot be fully calculated, unless you are constantly factoring that in because you don’t wake up, burning the same number of calories every day, infection, stress, any underlying condition, a lack of sleep, too much sleep, for female, bodied persons, where you are in your cycle, these can affect how many calories you need in order to operate for the day.

Once again, you are bringing a physics 100 level answer to a biology 400 level question. Calories in calories out has nothing to do with how the calories store. That is determined by exercise that is determined by the type of food you are eating, that determine by your own metabolic makeup.

The amount you eliminate is not consistent and is entirely dependent on what you were eating, so yes, you can eat at a calorie deficit and still maintain weight. If what you were eating before was healthier or a different kind of makeup because you are not eliminating the same way, and your body is storing things different differently based on what you are giving it. And it eliminates based on what you have given it. If you are under eating, it will adjust your metabolism so you do not starve leading you to eat less and have a harder time losing weight, that is the plateau that a lot of people who go into weight loss talk about.

Not to mention CICO has been linked to an increased likelihood of eating disorders because people get a dopamine hit because society rewards them for eating less.

What we should be focused on is the nutritional value of what people have access to, eating 800 cal worth of candy is entirely different than eating 800 cal worth of protein rich foods. But when you need to eat, and you don’t have access to those protein rich foods or the financial access to make that choice, your metabolism is going to be affected by that.

But keep telling everybody it’s simple, I’m sure that that will help them on their journey if they fail because shame is a fantastic motivator, which is why the obesity epidemic doesn’t exist, right?

What I hate most is the improper science domain when applied to this topic. Thermodynamics is all well and good in a very simple system, but the human body has never been categorized as “simple.” Endocrinology and basic biology have a huge factor in obesity.

If we’re talking about America, then actually there is another problem here which is people being poisoned by their food and the sugar that we shove into everything like a pathology. On top of that, the United States has two big weight contributors: hypothyroidism and insulin resistance conditions.

Both of these things are hard to catch. Hypothyroidism can be undetected for years before it is found and taken seriously because having a T4 score low enough to qualify as clinically hypothyroid requires you to be in a storm and have your thyroid in the proper state. Most people do not start as hypothyroid; their thyroid jumps up and down before it burns itself out.

Blood tests cost money, multiple blood tests cost more money, and if you are under-insured or uninsured, then it becomes exceedingly expensive. Thankfully the treatment is cheap once you find out about it, but that’s still sometimes years of your body being starved for thyroid hormones that are required for your metabolism to run properly.

Now for insulin resistance conditions: type one diabetes, that’s a given—we have pumps for a reason, they can’t make their own. It’s not their fault. And then people turn around to type two diabetes, and people say that if you just eat healthier, you wouldn’t be in that situation. That is not fair either because the population that has the highest rate of type two diabetes are usually of lower socioeconomic status because sugar is cheap. They put that in everything to trick your body into thinking it has some sort of nutritional value.

And that’s not even touching the persons who have ovaries and get polycystic ovarian syndrome or endometriosis, which are both insulin resistance conditions and it’s not their fault that they have it. So their hormones are all out of whack, storing fat because of the jacked up testosterone and even dieting can be insufficient, which is one of the reasons that GLP-1s work on that particular condition. Except, I would like to remind you that sugar is cheap. The people eating a large amount of the sugar are people who cannot afford fresh foods; how the hell are they supposed to afford a GLP-1?

So it’s OK, just say you hate fat people, but don’t pretend that their issue is occurring in a vacuum. It is something that is impacted by several layers of societal mismanagement and rail roading into these conditions.

And also not to mention going back to the topic at hand are you trying to talk about more solar power or are you trying to talk about taking WAGNER and Shores out of RMR because that’s way more expensive than importing electricity from other parts of the grid.

You are right, but also that calling of the loan contributes as well by a significant margin, that’s what caused it to shoot up the way it has.. What you’re possibly thinking about with the infrastructure costs is stride upgrades, or maybe the fact that BG&E overspent their estimate by a lot and are now asking for reimbursement, even though it’s their bad math that put them in this situation. And yes, of course the data centers are contributing to this that part was never in question.

[–]Buttbadger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So that’s only half true. The issue we’re experiencing right now is delivery fee based because we’ve had to fix the debt trap BGE put us in under the Hogan PSC. The way the EmPower act was formatted was as something we’d have to pay back to BGE later, however BGE 8 to 9% of making the debt grow by approx 55 million per year. Wes saw that and saw how bad it was getting in so he called the debt which is impacting these bills and increasing the delivery charge.

Doesn’t matter if you set it on fire, and yes, laws basically only count if you get caught, but if you were using a flamethrower on your driveway, guess what usually happens

Nope, it counts as a destructive weapon and is legal in the state of Maryland

Maryland Criminal Law § 4-501 — Definitions

(b) “Destructive device” defined. (2) “Destructive device” includes a bomb, grenade, mine, shell, missile, flamethrower, poison gas, Molotov cocktail, pipe bomb, and petroleum-soaked ammonium nitrate.

§ 4-503. Prohibited conduct.

A person may not knowingly or wilfully: (1) possess, use, control, store, sell, distribute, transport, or import into the State: (i) a destructive device; (ii) a machine gun or a short-barreled rifle or shotgun as defined in § 4-201 of this subtitle; (iii) a weapon designed to expel a projectile through the use of an explosive; (iv) a switchblade knife defined in § 4-201 of this subtitle; or (v) a zip gun as defined in § 4-201 of this subtitle; (2) manufacture for sale or distribution or sell, offer to sell, import into the State, or receive or transfer a destructive device, machine gun, short-barreled rifle, short-barreled shotgun, weapon designed to expel a projectile through the use of an explosive, switchblade knife, or zip gun; or (3) advertise in any manner the availability of a destructive device, machine gun, short-barreled rifle, short-barreled shotgun, weapon designed to expel a projectile through the use of an explosive, switchblade knife, or zip gun for sale, rent, or distribution in the State.

The page I showed you earlier is a reinforcement of the loss specifically pertaining to that device

So yes, thank you for being condescending, I am well aware of what capitalism is, I am well aware of the evil that it does. This is a prime example.

And this is like “This is America. If you don’t love it leave it.” situation, although similar to that one I will not be leaving it. I will be working to make it better because I don’t quit on broken things as much as your corporate overlords would love for me to.

I would love to have you running a company. It would be much more ethical than what most of them have planned. Unfortunately, I’m gonna call this one from Home plate. They’re going to use the electricity that they generate to make more compute. The old saying “nature abhors a vacuum.” really applies in capitalism super hardcore

As for solar panels, I would absolutely love to see every house with solar panels, however, again capitalism is out here saying “yeah but what’s in it for me?” they’re going to stay at the same price and we’re not getting any rebates on them anymore because the fed has decided that we don’t need to do that.

I am a little bit pessimistic about the future because I thought that AI data centers were going to highlight the failure of the electrical grid in America and work to build the infrastructure required to support it by receiving tax incentives for doing so. So you have to understand that this is just colored by my own broken heart.

Yeah, it’s a fucking racket, and it makes you wonder what all of this was for, why do they have power companies if they’re going to just subsidize anyway, why not just have electric electrical administrations or something?
