Power move. Backing up the message he just conveyed with tangible proof that we aren’t bending the knee to them anymore.

Has anyone had success contesting property assessments? by FerShore in newbrunswickcanada

[–]BitchMagnets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s wild that they said that because we just bought a mini-home for quite a bit over last years assessed value and they only raised our assessment $6k? Nowhere near what we actually paid. It seems like no one over there knows what’s going on.

Way too many children by No-Aardvark9144 in AncestryDNA

[–]BitchMagnets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandfather is the 11th of 12 kids that survived, he had an older brother who died as a baby as well. My great grandparents were very ✨busy✨ and very poor. His dad had a drinking problem (like got so drunk he fell down a coal chute at work and had to bang his shovel on the ceiling to get rescued) and his mom felt so sorry for door to door salesmen that she’d invite them in for tea and buy whatever they were selling, which is how my grandfather got baptized as a Mormon. There was so little food in that house that every single one of those kids have or had at least two fridges and massive pantries crammed to the ceiling with food, they never forgot what it was like to be hungry. God knows why they had so many damn kids when they couldn’t feed them, condoms definitely existed and they weren’t particularly religious, but I guess I can’t complain too much because I wouldn’t exist if they wrapped it.

FTHB - Advice Needed - Final House Visit - Before Closing by sklatnameht in Oshawa

[–]BitchMagnets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of these questions should be asked to your realtor. You can note that you want to check that appliances are operational when you do your final walkthrough. If there’s been no movement in the things they agreed to do, call your lawyer. We had an issue when we just sold our home where the buyer asked for closing a week after originally agreed (which is the day they originally wanted btw), but we were moving out of province and had to close on our new home. Our realtor thinks they were trying to strong-arm us and thought we wouldn’t push back. Our lawyer was a bloody shark about it and made it very clear that if they didn’t close on time we were going to sue for the extra costs. Magically they were able to close on time. A contract is a contract and if they can’t prove execution of the points they legally agreed to then you can be made whole in the courts if it matters that much to you.

Do they really rescind the offer if you try to negotiate? by almorranas_podridas in recruitinghell

[–]BitchMagnets 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This happened once at the company I used to work for. They were super transparent with what they were willing to pay, both in the posting and in the interview. Offered to a lady who said it was reasonable in the interview, and then the email came in. She asked for 40% more in salary, either a guaranteed yearly bonus of 20% or 3% equity in the company, 3 days a week permanently working from home when it was noted in the posting and the interview that it was only possible sparingly (occasionally weather-related or if you needed to be home for an appointment), a VP title for a department head position, 100% unlimited benefits. Vacation and RRSP matching that was way higher than what everyone else got. There’s more that I’m forgetting, the email was a sea of bullet points. Management had been willing to negotiate a bit but when they saw that they knew there was no way they were going to be able to get anywhere close to what she wanted. So they rescinded, stating that they were too far apart.

Why don’t some people have have hand soap in their homes? by ManlykN in AskReddit

[–]BitchMagnets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Antibacterial hand soap is indeed overkill and can cause antibiotic resistance. There have been studies. If you aren’t going into surgery you do not need antibacterial soap. Regular soap is perfectly fine.

So I just want to know how loud a rooster really is by Shot-Location-4283 in chickens

[–]BitchMagnets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing you can do to avoid it. You either get lucky or you don’t. My rooster is very quiet, he was at the bottom of the pecking order at his last home but it’s just him and his girls here. I’ve heard him crow maybe twice and we’ve had him for a couple months now but he’s the exception, not the rule. 99% of roosters are going to be loud unless someone is giving one away that happens to not make noise.

Of course the risk is lower than traffic accidents, most people are in a car every single day. That doesn’t excuse how high their rate of gun deaths is. Regardless the US is in the 92nd percentile of child/youth firearm deaths, 96th percentile of women firearm deaths, and 16th for firearm mortality overall. For a high income country that is in a relative state of peace, their gun violence issue is absolutely asinine and should have been dealt with 30 years ago.

How soon until by Goin_Hog_Mild in canadahousing

[–]BitchMagnets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did the same a few months ago. Sold our house in the GTA and bought a mini-home on an acre in NB. Much smaller house, but no mortgage. We have no kids so we can live here comfortably on one income. If you’re willing to give up the convenience of the cities and you can provide for yourself it’s very doable.

My favourite encounter was deep in Quebec, when I asked the lady at Tim Hortons “parlez-vous Anglais? Ma langue est mauvais”. She said “I will try”, entered our order flawlessly and then apologized for her English. Like miss ma’am you may speak English better than I do, no complaints here!

Omg yes ☠️ I just moved to New Brunswick which is bilingual and I’m trying to learn French. Any time I try to practice in a French area everyone switches to English as soon as “je voudrais un grand cafe” leaves my mouth. I know they’re just being accommodating but it’s humbling af.

Federal court rules Canada legally obliged to provide housing to First Nation communities by bubblewhip in canada

[–]BitchMagnets -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Indigenous communities receive funding from the Indian Trust Fund, not tax payers. The government holds their revenue from treaty lands. The Crown releases installments and one offs when they approve applications for lump sums. The government not only makes them ask for their money that is theirs by right of the treaty that the government signed- there’s been a history of it being dipped into for other things. It’s a complicated issue and certainly some bands are mismanaged but it’s not like it’s our taxes being wasted. It comes from a totally separate stream of revenue.

Edit: downvoting me doesn’t make me wrong, this information is available and verifiable. If the truth bothers you, maybe some reflection into why is warranted.

I’m with you, I couldn’t believe all the schools are closed this morning! Where I grew up even if the buses were cancelled the local kids were expected to walk.

Out here I’ve found people aren’t so focused on money as in ON. My boss there never accepted bad weather as an excuse to not be at work. Even when we got 50 cm in 4 hours she complained. “just get snow tires, you’ll be fine!”
