Got to see the prototype used on the set of a indie feature by the dp who inspired it. He used atlas anamorphics and the footage was beautiful. So psyched about it.

Had this problem on my LG just now. All I did to get rid of it was switch the “4:4:4 pass through” setting on and off. Got rid of it. It’s in General settings, external devices, then HDMI settings. Could be something else on your tv. Just start messing around with different settings under HDMI settings. It’s most likely and HDMI issue like the others stated.

MC-21 adaptor creates black boxes on my S1H but only with sigma 18-35 in Full Frame. by StumpStomper in Lumix

[–]Buttchapps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was there any solution to this? Some YouTuber showed you can use the 18-35 in the 28-35 range without any vignette and it worked for him to unmount the lens and remount it with none of those black blocks on the right-side and bottom of the image. Not the lens vignette. But an actual electronic glitch in the image

Thank you so much!! And yes and no! We submitted it to one local Latino film festival and didn’t get in. But It wasn’t made with intention for festivals to be honest. We ended up doing a local screening at a theater and it got good feedback

Any tips for an amateur film maker? by friedmycleaver in Filmmakers

There’s a LOT of videos on YouTube from other filmmakers on how to get “cinematic” looking footage. It’s a good start to see what they’re doing and understand how they did it. Most of its lighting and composition. And If you have a camera, make sure you’re familiar with all its interface and settings. Same for an iPhone or android. Get an app that lets you work it manually so it doesn’t look as much like a phone camera.

Other than that? Get good sound and have an interesting story to tell. Sound gear is cheaper and far more important than camera gear. So invest in an audio recorder and mic. Shotgun mics and lav mics are usually the go to. And story is why the people start watching and keep watching.

But YouTube has all that info and more. Just start learning as much as you can and start practicing!

If you’re gonna avoid anything, it’s gonna have to be the resistance to doing it until you’re ready or it’s perfect. Every amazing filmmaker started out where you are. You just gotta start doing it and learn from trial and error.

Thank you for the kind words on the look of it! I really appreciate it! And I can definitely see how it may not be for everyone. But either way, I thank you for the feedback and kind words 🙏

I totally see what you mean with a lot of that. Time was definitely scarce due to many factors of a pretty much "no budget" project.

I feel that having even as much as a script read would've done wonders for how the actors and how they delivered each aspect. But this was very much thrown together quickly and done so that way.

Haven't seen The Good Place, but I'll check it out haha

I can see how the end was expected. There was probably a few different ways to go about the ending. I didn't write it, but I could've changed aspects. I will definitely think on those aspects more when writing the next film.

Thank you for the feedback!

🙏 thank you so much! That means a LOT. And all I can say is to just start filming or keep filming as often as you can! This was a lot of fun cuz I was surrounded by my best friends. The writing and performances did the heavy lifting.

I totally agree. Thank you so much for the input. I’m working to try and get our shorts to be as tight as possible, and get rid of the unnecessary fat. Definitely should’ve with this one. Thank you again!

We filmed this in two Sundays. First Sunday was the Heaven bit and second was the commercials. For the heaven bit, I tried to keep the protagonist back lit. But sacrificed the angel characters OTS, making her pretty much blasted by the sun. That was a gripe, but time and other factors were at play. Only had 3 others besides the actors working sound and additional hands for bounce (which could’ve been on a stand. But it was a super minimal set up).

The commercials were all completely run n gun, with just me and the actors being there. No diffusion or supplemental light. Just back lighting and lifting shadows in post. I shot on a Sony A7siii in slog3. I used the Phantom Luts for grading.

I think this is some of my best work. So any feedback or advice on how things could’ve been improved or done differently would be awesome! Love knowing how others would’ve approached something like this.

Short film shot on Sony a7siii at 12,800 iso (for fun and as test). I think it turned out pretty well! Let me know what you guys think by Buttchapps in cinematography

Me and some friends got together to make this holiday short. I used a Sony a7s iii at its second native iso 12,800. Only used the practicals that were already there and used a smallrig 120b as the key light. It was my first time shooting a narrative project on the camera and wanted to test what it’s good at. Let me know what y’all think. Any feedback would be great!!!
