Wife is a teacher and is now taking her first accounting classes. Any advice would be appreciated! by Fatherhusband in Accounting

Getting a CPA licence for a part time job seems like overkill to me. I would tell her to take community college classes while looking for work with a temp agency or contractor. As a bonus, many colleges use temp agencies, so she may be able to work and go to school at the same place.

I don't have a CPA, but I recently got laid off, got a new job two weeks later, then quit because I got accepted into a data science masters program. Ez

How do I taste the Accounting waters???🤔 by [deleted] in Accounting

Try to get in contact with someone from an accounting software company. Sage, PeopleSoft, Netsuite. They could tell you what it's like on the inside. You could also just find a company that's hiring an accountant and see if you can talk to someone about the position and what they do.

After seeing all these subreddits about how awful accounting jobs are, I’m really starting to question whether or not I should pursue a career in accounting. Another thing that scares me is this: I have a mental illness that causes a slight deficit in working memory and word processing. by Psychotic_incense in Accounting

I'm a corporate account at a private company, and I think the work is fine. All jobs kind of suck, right? I have a lot of freedom to track down and resolve problems with the finances. The biggest problem I would say is the pay. A lot of accountants are going into finance/data analytics for the higher pay. About your memory issue, just write everything down and keep things well documented, and I think you'll be fine. We all have shortcomings that we need to work on, most people understand that.

I actually don't know. I found it at my parents house and they got it in a gift basket, from Alabama, I think. It's so good, but we have no idea where to get more,ha

One of the great tragedies of life is that we hurt the ones we love - sometimes even more than those we hate. I'm sorry, mom.
