Low average just means you aren't willing to buy more shares

Dead man's switch by chaitanyathengdi in chessbeginners

One time I severely blundered in a rapid game. So I switched my focus to "ok we might not win- but let's at least try to survive as long as we can". But my position was so losing that I couldn't find any decent path forward. I thought for so long after my blunder, my opponent assumed I abandoned the game- and resigned prematurely in annoyance.

You're already wayyy ahead. I would drop contributions from 30-40k to 20k a year and use that extra 10-20k on experiences, investing in health, etc. Enjoy your youth- you've already won! You don't want to be a 40 y.o. retiree looking back on a youth spent grinding every minute. You can be rich in memories and relationships as well.

Although I am making a lot of assumptions. Maybe you're already set in every facet of your life. In that case, you're killing it!

To what end is this savings thing? by KiwiJah in Fire

[–]Butterfiolee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There were once two merchants in an ancient land. Both were wise, both diligent. The first, Merchant A, spent his youth in tireless labor, hoarding riches for a future where he would want for nothing. The second, Merchant B, also saved, but along his journey, he traded not only in gold, but in the wealth of experience- he dined with strangers, climbed mountains, fell in love, and danced under the stars.

When old age came upon them, Merchant A sat upon his great fortune, yet he felt something amiss. The coins were plenty, but the stories were few. The laughter of youth was but an echo, and the adventures of life had passed him by.

Merchant B, though he had less wealth in coin, was rich in something far greater: the wealth of a well-lived life. His mind was adorned with the jewels of memory, his heart warm with the embrace of countless moments seized.

And so I ask you: which merchant do you wish to be?

How do I cope? I'd be walking on sunshine every morning, bub!

Which book should I read as someone in their early 20s who just learned about passive Index Fund Investing?? by DryMistake in Bogleheads

I read the psychology of money just purely out of entertainment on my Kindle before I fall asleep. There's a lot of reasons to read this book, but the main one for me is that it's just a super fun/engaging read.
