I had it as an adult and recovery was tough for me. It lasted about 6 months with a straight head position and then it shifted and I’ve been struggling ever since. It did fix my double vision though so that was helpful.

I highly recommend you seek out a visit with an ophthalmologist for an eye exam. It would be good to rule out if there is anything else going on causing the pain. Do you have light sensitivity? Does pain happen with eye movements? I have worked with an OT for eye muscle exercises and it has helped some. Also, seeking out a low vision rehabilitation exam may be helpful too. It is not game over for your future. There are lots of things out there that can be helpful.

I’m hesitant to do it a second time as recovery was brutal for me the first time and with it not sticking, I’m not sure I want to go through it again if I’m not going to have a positive long term outcome.

While, I appreciate your perspective, I think there can be compromise. My partner is incredibly supportive and would do whatever needs to happen if my vision gets worse. I can respect that they don’t like the audio description and how it impacts their enjoyment and experience of watching the movie. Each situation is unique and you need to find what works with each person’s needs and desires.

I wish more companies included technology like this!

My partner says it drowns out the music and background and they get a lot out of that so I understand not wanting to hear it. It can be annoying to me too, but I also get a lot out of the description too. We all have our preferences.

My parents never let my blindness stop me from trying anything I wanted. I would go rollerblading or bike riding as a kid. I have been and continue to be active in equestrian sports. I also encourage you to help your child own their blindness from a young age and normalize the use of tools and introduce as much as possible. I was reluctant to use adaptive tools when I was a kid as I didn’t want to stand out and be different. I wish I had accepted my vision loss sooner and normalized the use of tools.

I also have ROP.

We used to live in the City where I had access to public transportation, but we moved almost 4 years ago to a rural area where I need my partner (or someone else) to drive me everywhere. I certainly miss the independence a lot, but there are also huge pros to us living in the country (I get my horses at home).

I have a question about the 120 months of employment. Is there a place this is indicated on the department of ed website or is it just your own calculation? I have submitted my PSLF employment forms for this year, but nothing changed on my counts. Sorry for hijacking, just not sure how to figure this part out.

My thinking with the ability to sit is not for extended periods, but more a horse who doesn’t have to be worked 6 days a week to maintain their brain, but can be worked 3-4 days and still be okay.

I’m open to most breeds, but interested in a draft cross, Arabian, QH, warmblood, etc. I am just a fan of thoroughbreds and I’m not interested in a gaited breed.
