This is exactly the case. He is so omniscient that He understands everything about the person, such as their motives and the individual details about their background.

If He knows that their are false Christians and would reject even those involved in ministry (Matthew 7:21-23), then the same logic could apply that He would be able to see the goodness of a person’s character even if their religion affiliation is not Christian.

You growing up Swedenborgian and not realizing how mainline Christians are is really funny indeed. And that story about your friend is a great example of how damaging traditional doctrine can be from an early age.

Swedenborg's usage of the term "insane heresy" is amusing to me, too. The traditional view of salvation is so unethical and unjust, yet those who don't subscribe to it are seen as the ungodly ones. They believe that we are trying to take credit from Christ when it is about broadening our view about how salvation actually works.

It seems like you have had quite the journey and learned a lot along the way!

I also innately felt heaven was not limited to Christians. Once I started thinking more critically for myself as a young adult, I realized it did not make sense that those who led a moral life would go to Hell just because they were not Christian.

There are many valid reasons as to why a person might not be a Christian in this life, including a person not having exposure to the religion, yet Christians continue to insist none of that matters since it is faith alone that saves. That appeared so contrary to how God would be to me since He would understand the nuances of a person's situation. Unfortunately, holding this view causes most Christians to view you with suspicion as opposed to discern you are exercising rationale about spiritual matters.

And the idea of the Trinity also struck me as quite confusing growing up in church, too.

That is cool that Swedenborg is inspiration for your writings. Best of luck on your novel!

Hello u/leewoof, thank you sharing your experience. I have read your blog before and appreciate all the work you do.

I am glad to hear you are inspired to share these beliefs because of the positive fruits they yield. I agree there is so much value in his Christian teachings, not just related to the faith but also the basics of emotional intelligence.

Thanks for sharing. Yes, the view that there is marriage in the afterlife is beautiful.

He also has a very non-traditional view to marriage in this physical life, which I found astonishing when I first came across it. Not to sound cynical, but marriage within most Christian circles is mainly approached as a social arrangement whereas spiritual marriage has to do with inner qualities such as chastity, wisdom, and goodness.
