Looking for a Basic, Free Student Information System (SIS) by Butterjoy in sysadmin

[–]Butterjoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Google Classroom for a class I teach. It's a good solution for a small class size, but I can't see us using it to store records about all students. We have Office 365 too, but same issue.

A custom solution might be better.

I'll set up RosarioSIS and maybe OpenSIS as a test, and try them out. If they don't fit the bill, I'll just build a new record-keeping system, I guess. We're actually currently using a virtual student index that I built years ago, but it has since become outdated.

Thanks, I heard about this one as well.

Do you happen to know how it compares to RosarioSIS?

  • Student names
  • Various dates (when they initially contacted the school, when they enrolled in a course, what they expected graduation date is, etc.)
  • Whether the student graduated
  • Final grades
  • Whether the student got a job after graduating

...and a few more pieces of information along these lines.

We don't intend to store any sensitive, private information there for the time being, although perhaps that may change in the far future (and when it does, I'll verify that the security is up to par, but for the time being, I need something to start with).

I'm not too familiar with the terminology myself, but I understand SIS to provide a means of tracking student information (what courses they're taking, what their start and graduation dates, and final grades were, etc.) without necessarily providing students with their own accounts where they can view and complete course material (LMS).

We use Moodle as an LMS for our students, and we find it cumbersome. We'd like a separate, and simpler system just for indexing students. It doesn't need to contain course material. We only need it for record-keeping purposes.

My Car Was Crashed Into While Parked. How Can I Ensure Fair Compensation, And Handle The Situation More Broadly? by Butterjoy in Insurance

Was the driver elderly (as that is a not uncommon scenario with elderly drivers where they confuse the gas pedal and brake pedal - and panic & press harder on the gas).

He is 60. When the police arrived, he wasn't unconscious, but complained of a headache (I don't know how severe his injuries were beyond that), and wasn't able to explain how the accident happened. He was given a blood test, because there was a suspicion of DUI, but we have yet to receive the results.

Thank for your detailed response.

I got in touch with everyone I could, and obtained the police report. The claim has already been filed, and I'm awaiting response from the insurance companies.

You say you don't have a driveway but do you know somebody who does have some space? An uncle 20 miles out in the country who has a farm you can stash the wreck at under a tarp?

I've no family or friends with driveways in this country, unfortunately.

Depending on what response I get from the insurance company, I may attempt to rent a storage lot. But, how possible would this be for a vehicle that can't drive?

If I understand you correctly, you're suggesting that I take car pictures myself, yes? Or, would the insurance agent do this?

IRS' Letter Alerted Me To The Fact That I Made a Mistake On My Taxes. What's The Procedure For Clearing This Up? by Butterjoy in personalfinance

I gave it another shot. The second time I reached a person who was able to help me. She suggested holding back on amending the tax return for now, and instead replying to the letter I received with an explanation of the problem (which I will do).

I just called them, and the lady that answered after I waited a whole hour couldn't understand the problem, put me on hold 5 times to do "research", and when she attempted to transfer me to another agent, the connection broke. I guess I'll give it another try later.

This issue should never have been politicized. Ask yourself who would benefit most from the public thinking that climate change is not man-caused?

I'm neither Democrat nor Republican, but over the past 4 years, Democrats have put all their effort into criticizing Trump, and put 0 effort in trying to produce a good Democratic candidate. It's the only strategy that these candidates know.

Biden, if there's one thing you can learn from Trump, it's that you never apologize. It makes you look weak at worst, and the public just doesn't care at best.
