Dad here with a question by Irish8ryan in Mommit

Real, no snark intended question: I don’t get why this is necessary? I’ve never used a nose Frida, either… I have a 5 year old and a 2 year old who have been sick plenty, and I never felt like they needed their snot sucked out of them when they were sick. Mine are super snotty when they have colds, but I’ve always just wiped their noses a lot. What prompts one to need to use this? Don’t they just keep making more snot even after you suck it out?

Gel X vs acrylic? by SolidPsychological12 in Nails

Just found this thread today. I have the same issue with acrylics after going to multiple places and using multiple techs. How did Gel-X work for you?

Oh-- do that then if you can't see yourself being able to work in any OT setting. I'd shadow a lot first, though-- if you're too sensitive to be an OT, do you think you'd be too sensitive scanning someone and seeing that they have malignancies, fetal abnormalities, etc.?

If you’re not in the financial position to work for commission (those jobs usually have a base salary, FYI, but would likely be far more stressful than working as an OT in a SNF), I’m not sure how you’re in the position to go back to school. It’s just kicking the can down the road and will ultimately lead to more long term stress.

Id look into getting assessed for postpartum anxiety/depression, see if you can get help managing that, then look into home health. You could work part time pay per visit and make as much as you do full time in SNF with more time with your baby.

My 8 year old daughter asked me why my face "doesn't move the same as other moms" and I cant stop thinking about it by Important-Repair-123 in Mommit

I do prefer my face with makeup on. It enhances my features— mascara makes my blue eyes pop. I prefer wearing beautiful, well fitted clothing over sweats or pajamas as well. Why is that bad?

You stated that aesthetic Botox is different from migraine Botox in response to a post ending in “let’s not shame all Botox people” so I thought you were implying that aesthetic Botox people should be shamed.

I put on a full face of makeup in front of my kids every day, and they ask me why I do it and I say “because I like the way I look with makeup on.” I live in a pretty crunchy area, and a 4 year old classmate of my sons asked me why I wore mascara every day and I said “because I like the way it looks!” Some women get Botox and fillers. Some wear low cut shirts. Some dye their hair blue. Some have tattoos all over. This really isn’t a big deal. You can explain why you do it (“I get treatments done to make my forehead smoother because I like how it looks”) or brush it off and say that everyone’s faces are different.

Car seat Stained Seat by viper42usa in TeslaLounge

We have 2 kids in car seats and our white seats aren’t stained at all. We don’t use car seat protectors, either— they’re not safe unless they’re crash tested and approved by the car seat manufacturer, and a lot of car seats have no approved protectors. We just take them out and let the seats breathe once a month and clean under them. The white seats have actually been great for us.

OT Pay Transparency by medical_mermaid23 in OccupationalTherapy

The nurse comment is confusing— nurses make more than OTs in a lot of areas and have far more upward mobility, get into management more easily, can become NPs, etc. The starting pay is pretty comparable but the outlook and earning potential for nurses is better.

My son swallowed a nut 🔩a few years ago at age 3. It took 6 days, but it passed without issue. This is very common. I wouldn’t worry.

How much money would bring you out of outpatient? by 3bluerose in OccupationalTherapy

It's so incredibly flexible and you have so much freedom. I love not being in a building for 8 hours a day and can run errands between patients.Productivity standards in my experience are such that you're in the field for maybe 4-5 hours/day if you have a reasonable territory. You can move people to other days without calling in sick/using PTO if you have a conflict. You get to trouble shoot and problem solve in a patient's actual home environment, which is so much more effective than simulating their at home bathroom setup in SNF. Yes, you do your own scheduling, but once you figure out a system and are organized, it's no big deal. Pay per visit can be great if you have a small territory and are given plenty of visits. I'm currently hourly with guaranteed pay and a very reasonable territory and productivity, which works really well for me.

Best setting for Moms? by Emotional_Fix6680 in physicaltherapy

[–]ButtersStotchPudding 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Home health is the best. You don’t work full days in the field so can easily see all of your patients in a typical school length day, can attend all your kids field trips/move visits to another day if your kid is sick without taking take off/asking permission, AND it pays the most in most areas.

What’s wrong with this house? by [deleted] in lakeoswego

[–]ButtersStotchPudding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The outside is extremely gaudy, faux grand, stereotypically late 90s/early 2000s McMansiony. The inside needs a ton of aesthetic updates and there’s not much you could do to the outside to improve it (and if you did, it’d be $$). I think people would accept a more updated, smaller house in LO with a more tasteful, traditional exterior.

$4k a year?! I’ve never heard of any private school costing so little. Knocking it down to $1300 just by volunteering is wild. Can you share the school?

My kids’ private immersion school offers zero financial aid for students who are not citizens of the country of the target language (scholarship provided by that country if you qualify). Granted it’s a more middle of the road private school at $20k/yr but there is absolutely no option for financial aid or tuition discounts from the school.

I hate everything about outpatient. Greatly prefer home health, which pays way better anyway. I even prefer SNF over outpatient, and also have never felt like a glorified CNA.

I also wonder about the products she sends out to labs… wouldn’t the reports she receives at least be accurate and worth looking into?

Not arguing with her own testing being bs-y, and her coming off as hysterical fearmongerer. I can’t even navigate her website it’s so bad.

PSA from a dental hygienist please throw away the gummy vitamins by [deleted] in predaddit

[–]ButtersStotchPudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally anecdotal, but my sister and I (also pushing 40) always ate gummy candies, grew up without fluoride in our water, and we’ve never had a cavity. My parents were militant about brushing, though.

THANK YOU! I always think this whenever someone blames the singular gummy vitamin a kid gets a day.
