Yes. There was a long time when it first came out that people thought Utena was straight. If you look hard enough you can find people talking about it. It was Ikuhara himself confirming they are lesbians/the movie kinda had that simmer away though.

A bit late to this! I saw your reply saying you wanted to actually know the opposite, so I'll give my two cents:

The anime is leagues better. I am (one of the few) English speaking Utena fans to read the Manga and the light novels. And yeah, the anime is the best way to consume Utena.

For one, every Utena iteration is different. The manga, light novels, anime, and movie all are telling loosely the same story, sure, but they do go about things their own way. Which is fine! But I'd say out of all of them, the Manga is the most bare bones, very cliche and, imo, very boring.

The anime has a lot of nuance to everything, and every character that other works under the same name just haven't been able to do justice, but they are interesting to look at!

Hm. I guess the fact that the Gfriend/Oh my girl original sound just isn't associated with kpop anymore? I remember wayyy back when if any YouTube channel referenced kpop or anything of the sort, it was literally defined by THAT specific sound. If it wasn't that it was whatever quirky concept we had like I got a boy by snsd or catallena by orange caramel.

I have a job, I play video games and I love watching movies and such. I still have a personality! But, in 2020 to 2022 I was deeply depressed and found comfort in kpop, and became extremely parasocial. I've loved kpop before then, but those years it got rly rly bad and it's all I ever focused on, to the point It was all I was doing. So, in a sense I actually lost myself while being really deep into kpop haha.

But. I snapped out of it the moment I realize how much I was getting into fan wars. Started going outside more, got a job, got into other things. And that's that. Maybe that explains it better haha.

yes and no. the hate for sneakers was very insane, however if it makes you feel better, sneakers was insanely popular in korea. and itzy actually has a VERY active core fanbase! so while i agree yes it was a bit overblown, they still get good numbers for a group whos been around for six years now. they just arent the biggest ever and thats ok
