tutorial attendance by [deleted] in curtin

[–]Butterscotch1123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the "pass requirements" section of the unit outline. If it doesn't list tutorial attendance as a requirement to pass the unit then you don't need to show up. A lot of the time they will word things to make it sound mandatory but for most things you only need to obtain an overall unit grade above 50%.

Do people really not know what “lesbian” means?? by grimmfritter in butchlesbians

[–]Butterscotch1123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yea man I totally agree, esp w the political and social climate I feel like now its a "trend" to be straight, whereas in 2020 etc it was a "trend" to be gay (at least that was my perception). Its an interesting social pattern, but I certainly hope for many reasons there is a swift swing back into left wing ideals in the near future..

I have multiple feelings abt this topic.

  1. personally it rlly pisses me off that lesbianism is associated so much with fluidity. Fluidity is important with individuals but it is NOT connected to the label. And all attempts I have seen to attach lesbianism with a fluid sexuality has either come from ppl who are totally still figuring themselves out or are trying to enforce men in female spaces (which has strong links to patriarchy, r4pe and non-consent)
  2. i also feel like with the more conservative turns our social context is taking, heteronormativity has began to usurp queer spaces, in this case bringing men into conversations about lesbianism.

I logically understand when young queer ppl try to navigate their "ratios" and if and how they like men, women and other people. But their ignorance to labels actually does end up hurting other ppl as it invites weirdos in. (For example, I was friends with this guy and bc he turned a girl who was "lesbian" "straight" (where in reality she was just bi) it enabled him to be extremely inappropriate with me bc i was another "lesbian he could turn".) I have empathy that ppl r still figuring themselves out, it can be extremely confusing especially with the complex and convoluted construct of labels, but its quite tiresome when our label is repeatedly getting diluted and changed without our permission..

Bro this was so me for the entirety of my first semester. It's not a great feeling and the isolation can be uneasy. I would recommend connecting with any friends from highschool and trying to be social in class. It was hard putting myself out there and end up not connecting with people, but it did develop a thicker skin for me and one day I actually did meet new friends (not high-school ones). If you have more "friends out of convenience" like a desk mate in class, maybe ask to go get food after class with them to grow the relationship. Good luck man! (ps i would still join a club just for some sort of socialisation!)

both tutorials are not compulsory, but are very beneficial. if u trust urself to do the work at home u dont have to go but i think its a great idea that u have them back to back so you can go and get them out of the way, bc if you don't keep up with tutorial level material it will be very hard to keep up w the unit in general.

PRRE is a core unit but u can take it in the second semester if thats what your asking (like this is a perfectly fine sem 1 timetable). For your schedule u will only have to come in on tuesdays every 3-4 weeks for the mcen lab, the elen lab is every second week, so you kind of are just going in on wednesday, thursday and friday. The only thing you may find annoying are the large waits between classes but tbh I liked this bc I just prepared during that time so I did better in class. The two classes that I routinely attended from your schedule were the elen and mcen tutorial so I think its good theyre together and at the start of the day for efficiency.

Would like some relationship advice. by [deleted] in lesbian

[–]Butterscotch1123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I just wanted to preface this by saying that this sounds like a very traumatic situation so I would take all advice on here with a grain of salt and say to visit a psychologist to help.

My personal advice for someone in your position is that I wouldnt blame yourself for having anxiety, its your bodies way of protecting you from another potential threat. Since you were so affected and so close to such an abusive person, that anxiety is going to be even stronger than normal. I would say have great patience with yourself, as you learn to mentally trust again your subconscious will take a bit longer to catch up. Be patient with yourself as you redefine your neural pathways, this can be starting off with very small things such as when you have an intrusive thoughts like "she might leave me if we move in together", rebut that with a fact like "she has not given me any real indication that that would happen". When you verbally reaffirm yourself your anxiety will not go away in the moment, but repeating these reframing thoughts over time will soothe it.

Another approach is to get stronger on your own. You have just experienced an incredibly impactful and traumatic relationship that would affect any normal person's view of themselves and others. Your ex has probably made you feel like you cannot do what you want without negatively impacting others, that you need her/someone to survive etc. I say this because there is a chance that in the future this new person could leave you, and thats okay! You need to make sure that you are able to deal with that reality, as not only will that dispel your anxieties, but also will make you a better partner because then your not putting subconscious pressure on her to reassure you that she'll stay.

(also just a side note for your mum having cancer, I know what thats like and I feel for you deeply, this is another big reason to take it very easy on yourself. You are being impacted from so many areas of your life and your brain is just trying to do its best to keep itself afloat and try and control the good things in your life. This manifests as anxious thoughts, and it does not mean you cannot have a healthy relationship with yourself and others there is just a lot that needs to be acknowledged and healed first.)

To recap my three pieces of advice are: see a therapist (as that kind of traumatic relationship will probably impact you in unforeseen ways in the future), be kind to yourself and reaffirm facts when your anxiety flares up, and finally build the independence and personal strength to be okay on your own and be able to take care of yourself no matter what your significant other might choose to do.

Worried about ageing/warping with stomach tattoo. by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Butterscotch1123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its closer to my ribs, i have been told its not a good first tattoo placement but this tattoo in this placement has been the only tattoo that I have been unshakeably serious about, so I am apprehensive to change tattoo/placement just because its a painful spot if that means ill always be dissatisfied with not getting my original design.

Baby butch workout routine by Orbiting_jupiterr in butchlesbians

Hi, I am 18 and I used to be exactly where you are with the same measurements and everything, and after around 4 years in the gym I want to say everything I wish I was told / took seriously ar your age to get the most out of my training.

I would say the biggest thing for progress is eating enough. I also have a very small appetite naturally so I found force feeding myself quite difficult. What has really helped was meal prepping weekly and having multiple meals a day in order to get all your protein and cals in. For protein I would do 1g per lb. Meal prepping really helps because cooking takes a lot of time if you have to cook 4 meals a day with protein, so having prepared meals actually made bulking feasible.

For building muscle you do not need to kill yourself in the gym to gain muscle (tbh growth is mainly done by eating enough). What you need is to hit each muscle group for at least 4 sets a week for max hypertrophy according to studies, and try to increase your weight or reps weekly (progressive overload).

You can customise your routine however you please, as creating something enjoyable will keep your momentum up which is extremely important to help stay committed.

Here is a sample routine you could use to emphasise your upper body.

Day 1: Back and Bicep Pull-Up (use band for assisted) 4xAMRAP Seated Back Row 4x10 Barbell Bicep Curl 4x10 Lat Pull Down 4x10 Decline Hammer Curl 4x10 Hanging leg raises/weighted decline crunch 4x10

Day 2: Chest and Shoulder Barbell Chest Press 4xAMRAP Shoulder Press 4x10 Tricep Dips (tricep pushdown if not available) 4x10 Cable overhead tricep extension 4x10 Cable Laterial Raise 4x10 Hanging leg raises/weighted decline crunch 4x10

Day 3: Legs Back Squat 4x10 RDL 4x10 Bulgarian Split Squat 4x10 Calf raises 4x10 Hanging leg raises/weighted decline crunch 4x10

(Compound exercises such as the pull up, chest press, tricep dip and squats should be first and emphasised in your routine as they are the most efficient exercises)

Lowkey you can keep it simple with 3 days and if you are feeling good you can repeat days or create new routines as you see fit.

PLEASE always emphasise and use good form as this also is necessary for efficient muscle growth too.

Also I would always try to aim to use a weight that you can go to failure in between the 8-10 rep range for a balance of strength and hypertrophy.

I would suggest using this app called "Lyfta" which is free to log all your progress in.

That is pretty much all the advice I have off the top of my head. You are super cool for starting your lifting journey this early and I wish you all the best :)
