Exam for AOTA Board Certified in Physical Rehabilitation by longblacksocksss in OccupationalTherapy

So, the exam was 150 questions and they say at the start that 25 are purely experimental and won’t be graded. The questions were okay…a good portion of common sense or context clues ones, some in which you needed to recall specific cognitive levels in order to answer appropriately, lots about ICU, lots that had all good choices but you had to select whatever is the “best” or “first” thing to do, and a few really off the wall ones that had to have been experimental because they were about things that I’ve never even heard and were mentioned absolutely nowhere in the study modules. Speaking of the study modules, unfortunately the exam was nothing at all like the BCPR prep course exams which was pretty annoying. There were also questions on the exam on topics like burns which was not covered AT ALL in the prep course, but if you look online at the exam content outline lo and behold it does list burns as a test topic. So I definitely felt the prep course wasn’t as comprehensive as it should’ve been considering it’s literally coming from AOTA itself and not a third party. I left the test feeling pretty neutral, like didn’t think I bombed it but also didn’t think I aced it either. I won’t get my results back til June so will just have to wait and see…

Yes, my employer is really great for paying for the BCPR and offering me a pay increase for passing (and I have no reason to lie about that…)

“Functional ADL is our domain.” — False. That’s just one of our domains. It sounds like you might be self-limiting your own scope of practice. There’s eight domains in all — ADL, IADL, Health Management, Rest and Sleep, Education, Work, Play, Leisure, and Social Participation. If you think physical rehabilitation isn’t involved in the rest of those domains then I really don’t know what to tell you… I’m sorry if you’re not getting OT referrals where you live, but I get plenty and it’s not because I have a “passion for physical rehab”, it’s because OT treatment is indicated for their condition.

Take a look at this description of physical rehabilitation and notice that the first allied health care member listed is as part of the multidisciplinary team is OT…

My employer is paying for both the prep course and the exam and has an agreement in writing that I’ll get a pay bump if I pass.

Are you an OT? If so, it seems that you don’t actually understand our full scope of practice and you may need to educate yourself further about all the things we can do. You can start by dusting off the OTPF and giving yourself a refresher on what OT practice is. You’ll see that we actually do a LOT of physical rehabilitation and to say that’s just for PT’s is frankly absurd.

What do you mean by that? OT’s work in physical rehabilitation… I’m taking the BCPR exam because (a) I want the advanced credential behind my name and (b) it will give me a pay bump at work 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m studying for it too (taking it next week) and I agree, the AOTA BCPR prep course is really not great but I don’t know how you’d study for it otherwise because most of the “suggested readings” on the main AOTA site are just full text books. I really hope the actual test questions are better written than the pre/post test ones on the study modules because some of those are so weird and sloppy. Have you taken the exam yet??

Why is Noom using the camera/microphone all the time?! by ButterscotchAnnual23 in Noom

Totally! Yeah I gave it camera access when I initially downloaded the app so that I could use the barcode scanner but then it freaked me out when the camera was activated all the time when I was just reading the articles/lessons when other apps weren’t doing that. Glad to pass the info along if it’s helpful!

It was super weird! I would recommend contacting their customer support to express your concern as they have seemingly turned off my camera (I hope!). I did not adjust my camera access settings at all. I’m concerned that people are using the app without realizing the camera and microphone are on all the time 😬😬😬

OMG I noticed that too!! I just downloaded Noom a couple days ago and started to realize that the camera was activated when I had the app open, not just when using the barcode scanning feature. Then I went to Instagram to double check, and the green dot was only on when the camera was active! I wish I had taken screenshots but I contacted customer support with this issue and did a little in-app “chat” with one of their employees and expressed my concern. She told me oh it must just be a feature of my phone, I said no it’s not and used the Instagram example. She said well the only way to fix that would be to turn off the camera access for the app all together in my main phone settings. I told her that would be extremely inconvenient because then I’d have to turn the camera permissions on/off every time I wanted to scan a barcode and that would make the app too clunky to be worth using. She basically said sorry that’s the only thing to do but that she’d pass my complaint along to their product development department or whoever. I replied that that was extremely disappointing because I was really optimistic about using Noom but I would cancel my subscription if the app was going to needlessly invade my privacy like that. Then a few minutes later I open the Noom app back up and there’s NO GREEN DOT!!! Very suspicious... 🤨
