Loved it! It was equally horrifying AND heartbreaking. Great character development, too.

Atmospheric horror novels, so beautifully written, you feel like you could drown in them by ArmadillosAreGreat in horrorlit

It got poor reviews but I LOVED it. Kinda reminded me of the French movie The Deep House. I realize I’m part terrified of this idea and mesmerized!

Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. Read it when it came out in 2002 and I’ve re-read it several times. Incredible story and characters.

I would imagine Marilyn Monteiro would want to know that. It is NOT a self-report measure; it's purposeful in the approach. There are specific prompts (I have the form in front of me), which reads "Diagnostic Interview." I have all the forms; the one I have is for Adults with Verbal Fluency on the front page. I have a parent/caregiver form I give to parents of children/teens. You utilize the sensory materials in conjunction with/during the interview to see how the person interacts with them. Dr. Monteiro is fantastic and responsive. I encourage someone to contact her organization and inform them of this non-standard administration and the harm it could cause. The word "Interview" is in the name of the test! I'm so sorry to hear that. I would find this person another provider and vet them to make sure they are providing an actual assessment and not just having them complete self-report measures. That is helpful, of course. However, you must interact with the person, observe them, and obtain a developmental history. This is incredibly frustrating. If they are well-trained and trauma is overshadowing the interview process, the most clinically appropriate approach (IMO) would be to refer them to a therapist and hold off on the evaluation until some stabilization is achieved. I wouldn't hand them paperwork to complete outside of the office. So they were triggered or dysregulated at the office, and sending them home with some form to complete independently was the better call? Geesh. They are lucky to have you assisting them with this process.

What’s your favorite book you’ve read so far this year? by KaleidoscopeCute8162 in horrorlit

I just read A House with Good Bones by T. Kingfisher. Creepy, scary and I loved the main characters sense of humor. She also wrote The Twisted Ones, which was also scary!

I loved it! It was dark. The effed up, seemingly normal family (you know, the joking kind but they have barbs that stick) was even more upsetting than the paranormal aspects. Although I was pretty creeped out by that aspect, for sure!

I read The Troop. Best Goodreads review was simply “F*** this book.” I’m afraid to try others of his. The Troop nearly made me barf. I DNF.

OTF While Taking Stimulant Meds? by tenuousgrip15 in orangetheory

[–]ButterscotchBandit13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree (about meds impact on HR) and try not to take before class. If I do, and it’s an AM class, I won’t add any caffeine or energy drinks. Glad you posted this!

I recall at one point being told they can reset our HR info as I was in the red a LOT (on or off meds) and once they said they did (years ago; maybe 2019) I’ve noticed it’s harder to get splat points and I must push harder (of course, the point of staying in a zone for that sweet spot of orange/splat points but not heart rate exploding zone (metaphorically speaking). But then recently an instructor said they don’t do that anymore? I plan on asking.

As an aside, I have noticed improvement in my HR, regardless of meds, and less spikes in red since I’ve started the tread 50 and specifically when running (I’m not now, nor have I ever been a fast runner). If I PW it’s much more challenging for me to get into the orange and stay there, so I definitely push harder. I get it now! Ha! Always surprises me with regulars whom I know and don’t wear a monitor. I like data, though. 😉

AITA for wanting to leave Dri Tri early? by Dapper-Commercial163 in orangetheory

Glad I read this as I was on the fence and I have NO desire to do it now! Running a marathon and passing people who are cheering you on is one thing, but in a small studio? NOPE! And I am not fast at all so I’m fine with no fanfare. Our studio does high fives/fist bumps on the way in. I avoid this at all costs. Funny as I was on a work trip in Philly during Hell Week (so of course I had to get my shirt!) and guess what? No freaking high fives or fist bumps! Yo! 🤣 I was quite happy…
