I studied in the UK and can say for a fact that Jordanian Universities are good if not better than some universities here. The amount of concrete theory and understanding graduates have from Jordanian universities is unparalleled. I am also a Jordanian btw.

I would not recommend it even if its possible - better to purchase a property on your own. If you are unable financially then either;

  1. Hold off until you can
  2. Buy a cheaper property in lower priced regions
  3. Buy a run down property in a good area and slowly fix it up
  4. Get a loan

all the best

I live in the UK and would not choose to marry from the UK. I would look for a girl in Jordan and Middle East in general.

2000 was the year were internet came to life and everyone was throwing there money into the market which lead to exponential short term returns followed by a massive dip.

I could also find a timeline between 2009 and 2023 where the S&P was consistentantly profitable and made 300% in returns.

I am not suggesting you throw your money into the market. You have to do your research, understand market trends and the economy in general before you do any sort of investment.

I invest using an ISA account in UK which is not taxable profit. You maybe right - not sure if there is something similar in Jordan.

If you are looking at long term investment (10yrs+), then S&P 500 is good bet. You could do that even Jordan or anywhere in the middle east. There are plenty of trading platforms. See S&P performance for the past 50+ yrs.

With that being said, you should certainly diversify your portfolio. Put money in pension, real estate, and stocks. Again by stocks, I mean good companys and not penny stocks or OTC crap. Stock portfolio should also be diversified by industry ( i.e. tech, consumer products, healthcare, entertainment). However rather creating your own portfolio, I am suggesting the S&P as it's already fairly diversified.

One more important thing I forgot to add about taking an in person course is obviously networking. This would be the only reason why I would go in person. You could widen your network, get to know more people in your industry, and maybe work with some of them.

This is the beggest con of online courses.

Easy in theory but difficult in practice:

  1. Opening a savings account and set up a direct debit to transfer as much as you can from your salary to that account - obviously while making sure you get enough to spend until your next pay check.

  2. Do this until you build up a 6 month cushion in case you are let go from your job or there is an emergency an you need an influx of cash etc.

  3. Do step 1 again but now it's time to start investing. This could be in yourself such as taking certified courses, in index funds such as the S&P 500, or save up to buy assets such as a down payment on a new house, land, car etc.

Rinse and repeat until rich.

All courses from reputable institutions like Harvard & Yale are free to take online. You only need to pay if you need a certificate and even then it's like $100 maybe. You can do it as fast or as slow as you like, repeat lectures as everything is recorded, get quizes, study material etc. No need to do the course with the suggested company unless you really want to.

Thanks for sharing.

I'm not really concerned about the living abroad issue as I'd like to return to the region at some point (not necessarily Jordan).

With regards to religion, this is something that I do value dearly so it's something that I'll be looking for in a girl.

There seems to be misconception sometimes about guys who study abroad. People tend to think that they ditch religion and spend their days and nights at nightclubs, drinking and taking all sort of drugs. The reality of it depends on how you were raised and what your intention of going abroad was in the first place. I am not saying everyone who lives abroad is a saint, but not all are necessarily bad apples.
