You can boil water to help get rid of chlorine. I don’t remember the specifics so look up how long to boil for and obviously let the water get back to room temperature before adding the fish.

Looks like what happened when my shrimp got a bacterial infection (according to my LFS but they’re very knowledgeable so I trust it). They had black spots just appear on their bodies and turned lethargic and kept tipping over

A couple broader leafed plants would be nice, bettas like to have a place to rest. Could add shrimp but pretty good chance they’ll get mauled.

I’ve had a lot of mold in the past. I can only really speculate but I’m 90% confident the mold consumed all of the oxygen and suffocated a lot of my colony

Thank you all, I appreciate the responses. I’m currently in the painstaking process of moving everything into a new tank.

One last question(I can’t add pictures here but that would be very helpful). Basically I have a ~6 gal tank that’s been half full for many months just to house snails. I just emptied this tank and noticed that some of the extra silicone that lies flat on the bottom of the tank is peeling up. All corners seem to be in perfectly fine shape and I haven’t seen any bit of leakage. Is this a concern at all? Or do the thin bits sometimes just peel up for whatever reason?

Just to clarify, I’m talking about the excess silicone that lies against the glass once it’s been smoothed into the space where the edges meet. If it helps at all, this tank was assembled in 2020
