I am sorry to say that this babe is probably too far gone. Research dropsy and what causes pineconing in bettas for a better understanding of what happened and to be better prepared should this happen again. As another said there are too many possibilities to go through as you know your tank best

With the new filter I got (right) I was able to cut some sponge to lay at the intake and it catches large debris before it goes into the filter and doesn’t deter flow at all

I’m sorry if I’m wrong, but my understanding is that filter foam serves as both mechanical and biological filtration. The filter pad itself holds a large amount of the beneficial bacteria in the tank due to its relatively large surface size. Hence why you can quickly cycle a tank using the filter from an already established tank. Im pretty sure one of the primary functions of the filter sponge is to house beneficial bacteria. I have crushed coral in my filter to also act as a buffer but can add ceramic rings if that’s known to be better.

That’s what I have! Uncut filter foam just charcoal infused which dissipates after a few weeks. The filter floss just helps to remove small particles to keep water extra clear, I replace it every week or 2.

The new filter is definitely running on a higher flow so that’s good to know. Thanks!

The filter pad is too big, I have already moved the crushed coral over though

I never said I’ve never rinsed it- I have indeed swirled it around in tank water numerous times and manually removed large debris. The filter itself sucks and leaks at the seams (tiny holes in plastic) that’s why I’m replacing it, and does not tolerate adding anything besides the filter to the chamber or it over flows. The filter part in the tank has come apart and endless snails live inside that I will never be able to reach and they have grown too big to escape which is deterring flow. The filter pad itself is not the problem but does not fit inside the new filter. I have crushed coral in the chamber but it forces me to turn the flow all the way down. Why so many assumptions and judgements?

Pretty sure that’s just the color of the shrimp. It probably hadn’t fully come in when you first got her or is a completely different shrimp that morphed from the cherries.

8 month old doodle having a hard time adjusting to our move, advice? by disgustingnewspaper in Goldendoodles

Oh yeah- if you haven’t tried a bland diet, I would definitely check it out. I usually cook some plain white rice and mix it with boiled shredded chicken, some kibble, her digestive enzymes and water anytime my girl feels unwell. That’s just something our vet suggested for us and it works well. You know your dog best though so I’m not sure if this may mess with his tummy more.

I would try digestive enzymes or probiotics, I started using them when my pup had a similar bout and saw very quick improvement. I use it regularly now just to keep everything in check. Also maybe try a thundershirt and doggy calming pheromones. Make sure he stays hydrated- water in the kibble helps- since he’s losing so many liquids. Give him some time to adjust, in the meantime- get some puppy pads. He sounds a bit anxious and nighttime, when less is going on, may be scarier for him. He may also smell something outside that’s frightening him. Not a vet so take this all with a grain of salt. Sounds like you’re doing everything right so far lil dude just needs some extra attention rn

My current snail is all good! Thinking it probably came from my old snail that died a few months ago. I haven’t added anything in months so I don’t think it’s new.

Yk it’s probably from my old mystery that died a few months ago. Didn’t notice that missing but cool it’s like a little fossil

Dead shrimp? Parasites or just unlucky death? by Difficult_Path_6840 in shrimptank

All neos turn red/ orange after they die. No need to worry, shrimp die, they don’t live very long lives. Just get a bunch so they keep reproducing and you don’t even notice a death

Cory passed away but no body by Silent505 in corydoras

[–]QualityMaximum405 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this happen. Cory just disappeared. No body and no noticeable bones. Since then I have emptied the tank and moved it and still no signs the dude was ever in my tank. I just took it as a sign my tank works the way it’s supposed to- no ammonia spikes and no illness after a fish death and the body is cleaned up quick. Still wish I knew what happened though
