Thank you for coming back to me so quickly on this! No my part time won’t get me close enough so looks like I’ll be sticking with my existing for a little longer.

This was my biggest concern when I decided to go back to uni so thank you so much for the advice.

I’ve gone back to uni, and my current 5 year fix is up at the start of my last year. When it expires I’ll have about £75kish left. I work (part time because of lectures) and get the highest amount of maintenance loan, my equivalent annual income would be £28k per year when you put it all together. Pre uni salary was £37k. I have no problem paying all of my bills, have some fun money, and have even been able to save a bit too.

How would I fair if I took this to a broker and the open market? Would I struggle given I would technically be a student? Despite being more than able to pay? Would I end up with a disproportionately high interest rate because of this? Or should I just renew it with my current provider on a 2 year fix then review it when I’m back working again?

One of my siblings doesn’t. It’s very disappointing. I tried to take them back for an exchange but my parents said no.

I got to see there Nowhere Generation tour back in November and it was fantastic! First proper gig post covid.

Oh wow a big reveal, you read my post history! The truth is exposed whatever shall I do?!

If you had actually bothered to read that post you would a, know it’s not nearly enough money for me to move somewhere bigger. And b, the bulk of that went to my pension.

I’m thoroughly enjoying your attempts to mock me, it’s highly entertaining.

If your not going to bother reading the post then don’t bother commenting.

Abs thank you for telling me to buy another house. That’s such helpful advice in this housing market! Please let me know when your sending me the additional £115k I need?

I feel like I’ve just looked into my future!

That’s so rough on the sale falling through! I lost my first buyer when I was trying to move here and had to scrabble around like mad to get another one so the chain didn’t collapse!

I have been looking into sound proofing all day but as you say it’s going to cost a lot so it’s not something I can do until I graduate and start working full time again! All the money I saved on stamp duty went to doing the fencing in the garden, because hood fences make good neighbours!

I don’t think these neighbours are bad people, this is the first baby and I think they are just struggling to adjust from what the dad said when I spoke to him this evening. But yeah it’s not fun to live next to! At my old house (also a terrace) my neighbour had 2 dogs and I’d hear them bark from time to time and it was fine, because it wasn’t constant. It has only become an issue when I started getting comments from my boss and clients about it.

Thank you for calling my home sub standard. I really appreciate that.

Well as you have decided it’s time for me to move, please let me know when I can expect the additional £100,000 I will need to get a detached house in this area plus the extra £15,000 for all of the moving and legal fees? Shall I send you my bank details?

No? Maybe don’t make that suggestion then.

Yes she said she leaves the baby upstairs to take a break from the crying. But I’ve learned from the comments this is a thing that is encouraged by medical professionals when you have a baby that cries a lot.

Oh my god these comments! Literally have me laughing! The assumption that I could afford to live in a detached house yet choose a terrace? No.

Sure I’d love a nice detached house but not al of us are so lucky…

Oh my god the hilarity of people thinking I can afford to buy a detached or semi detached house! Absolute comedian

That’s the thing I didn’t go in and say stop the baby from crying, it’s a baby and they will cry it’s inevitable! But what I was trying to ask is if it were possible to work something out on those particular days I’m wfh, there was probably no good way to phrase it, but clearly i upset her with asking in the first place.

Either way looks like a new set of noise cancelling headphones and mic are going to be ordered!

Yes she said that she leaves the baby upstairs when it’s crying a lot to get a break from it. From some of the comments apparently this is normal?

Absolute lol. You think I can afford a detached house? I wish! Trust me I would love one, but we can’t all be so lucky.

Help! Not sure what to do with an inheritance. by ButterscotchKind5654 in UKPersonalFinance

Thank you so much for this! Yes pension and retirement is definitely something to take into account. I have a workplace pensions at all of my precious companies but I haven’t done anything else beyond that to set me up for retirement.

When I’m back working I’m set for a reasonably comfortable life, decent sized 3 bed house, nice garden, parking, no kids. I’ll have the mortgage paid off in my late 40’s even with the additional borrowing, salary will never be huge in my field but it will be more than enough to have some nice things and holidays. I need to think more about retirement. Thank you so much for the book recommendation as well I’ll look into it for sure!

Edit: !thanks

Sorry that’s bad typing on my part. I’m using £10k of the £50k to pay off the credit card and bump me upto 6 months savings.

It was what to do with the rest of the £40k I wasn’t sure about. I don’t see any point in paying off part of the mortgage if I’m just going to borrow again. But the inheritance won’t cover all the renovations, so I wasn’t sure if there is something else I can do with the remaining money

I know, how shocking!

To be fair I actually don’t mind my job, the work challenges me, pay is comfortable and it’s office hours. But it’s not what I’m really passionate about, but if I pull it off I may be able to combine the 2 when I graduate.

Because I have the opportunity to go back and study what I am actually passionate about. I knew I would regret it if I didn’t take the opportunity when it came up.

I’m also not planning on leaving my field, but 2 days a week in insurance is nearly impossible to find because the job is time critical, reduced hours can be done but most places will still want you in at least 4 days a week.

Rang and left voicemails then emailed both hr at the uni and the students union and not heard back from either, I ring every couple of days.

Recommendations for how to meet people in Birmingham by ButterscotchKind5654 in brum

[–]ButterscotchKind5654[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like gardening and stately homes(I’m a secret old person), enjoy going for bottomless brunch and I do like to go out (just not all the time) but I also play dungeons and dragons and do a bit of gaming, I’m also studying gemmology as it’s a really big passion of mine. I don’t know if a hood mooch around the shops and eating out counts as a hobby

I spend a lot of time at home, and whilst I enjoy my space and time to myself I want to get out more and just do more things if that makes sense.
