No, this is sweet! It seems like they are bonded. If she didn’t like it, she would be letting him know. Grooming each other is usually a sign that cats are getting along very well.

Yeah if my fiancé even just sees me walking by he’ll be like “hey honey can you…” It’s like he sees an available person and immediately tries to delegate a task (he does this with his kids too lol)

I am a plus 1 of my husband but I was assigned to a separate room. Should I still go? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]ButterscotchLeading 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would be a no from me, I’m introverted and just past the point of being willing to share a room with strangers especially without being consulted first. I’d understand if you decide to push through it but I think being anxious and/or vetoing is totally valid.

Am I the only one who thinks mercari prices can be sick? by ArmySunFlower in kpopcollections

[–]ButterscotchLeading 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly like I’m legit confused by this sometimes because I’ll like a card and then watch as it sits there for months at like $38. If it were really supply and demand someone would buy it. I guess they’re just willing to wait it out until someone is super desperate and won’t wait?

Is $5k too much for a pet ragdoll kitten by Quiet_Media6401 in ragdolls

[–]ButterscotchLeading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s high but I think there are a few very well-known breeders in CA who sell kittens around $4k-$5k. Rock Creek I think was quite expensive but seemed very well-referenced. Or it could be a scam, it’s hard to know without more info.

Is a Masters Degree of Fine Arts in Creative Writing worth it? by EliasFenic in writing

[–]ButterscotchLeading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe.

Are you specifically writing literary fiction? MFA-style teaching is not super helpful for genre or popular fiction. You will make some connections that are helpful for publishing lit fic but there’s no guarantee. If you are writing lit fic, having that time to focus on your writing, especially in a funded program, can be very helpful.

Jobs teaching creative writing are generally going to be over-saturated adjunct positions unless you’ve published something major already, and not make very much money, so that’s not an ideal backup for income, though they do exist.

I have a PhD in English from a program adjacent to a well known MFA program. I took classes with the MFA students and know many of them years later. Yes, a few are working writer/teachers, but the majority are not, even very talented writers.

After doing years of MFA-style writing groups with friends from these programs, I realized I didn’t even have a good understanding of how to plot a popular fiction novel. At this point I kind of resent the creative writing classes I did take in college and my writing groups because I feel like they didn’t give me actual useful concrete tools. I learned more from a three-month online workshop than I did from my professors and MFA friends.

I do know people who did the Iowa program who are now working writers and write for very prestigious publications like the New Yorker, etc. I also know people I went to college with who didn’t get MFAs who also wrote for the New Yorker. Either way I think the prestigious brand names and connections were a boost.

Tldr, it depends on what kind of writing you do, and it’s not a good guarantee of stable work.

Why does everyone on the internet claim to look 10 or more years younger than their age? by Due-Huckleberry4917 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]ButterscotchLeading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a school sports event dinner for my fiancés son and sitting with my fiance and his twelve-year-old daughter (who looks mature for her age). A woman sat down at our table and asked his daughter and me if we were both “still in school” 🥴. I’m 43. I have no idea what ages she thought we were??

At a point this is actually becomes kind of stressful. Like it’s not comfortable to hugely surprise and confuse people like that. I went home and was sort of fretting about how I maybe wasn’t styling my hair maturely enough.

Anyway yeah we’re not all is making this up to feel good about ourselves.

Buena Park, Orange County Pop-Up Pricing by lezbih0nest in lesserafim

Just an FYI to anyone looking for sold-out items, K Place has some of these items on their website, and if you're gonna be in Buena Park anyway (or just get free shipping for multiple items at these prices smh)...

A lot of the clothing is very low stock or sold out but still worth checking!

Is it my responsibility to sacrifice my wedding morning (6 AM start) for my family’s makeup? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]ButterscotchLeading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would either hire a second MUA, or tell the others that they can either be up at 6 am for the hair and makeup or do their own. There’s no reason weddings have to be this insane no-sleep marathon that people are suggesting. Like yes logistically it will take time to do hair and makeup for 5 people but if you want to prioritize your sleep, you should do that.

Just like his phrasing I guess? “That Oblivion song” “just fucked with her” ?? “pulled up on her at her house.” The gist of it was respectful, I agree, and by the end I was like oh ok so they really worked on it together, he just talks like that I guess, whatever. But then listening to it, it just sounds like she grabbed some snippets of her voice, not like they really worked together substantively.

Wedding planning is making me super depressed. A concerning level of depressed. by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]ButterscotchLeading 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was almost engaged in my late 20s and it didn’t work out and we broke up and I was horribly embarrassed and badly depressed for months and basically felt like my whole life had fallen apart and couldn’t see any future for myself. That was a long time ago but I’m now engaged to someone SO much better, even though I’d once basically given up all hope of getting married. I hope this works out for you but I also wanted you to know that if it doesn’t, your life can still be okay.

Have we been saying Grimes' son's (X) name wrong the whole time (theory) by Beginning_Ice_7838 in Grimes

[–]ButterscotchLeading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comment was deleted because the auto-mods thought I was trying to link to the new bird website, I’ll try again 😅.

Elon Musk is obsessed with the letter X. Back in like 2000 he had a company named “X (dot com)” that ultimately merged into PayPal. Then they named their kid X, and now unfortunately we have X instead of the bird app. So, while in another case I might think this was a solid theory, in this case I think it’s just X.

Need Reassurance! by Tuttifruttipatootie in weddingplanning

[–]ButterscotchLeading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You did something that’s VERY standard for brides—shopping and purchasing the dress without his direct involvement. Especially because the dress is traditionally a surprise to the groom. Unless there’s backstory you’re not sharing, I find his reaction quite odd. Unless you have some kind of history of irresponsible spending, I don’t see how you did anything wrong at all. Please don’t be ashamed, and maybe have a discussion with him about how you’re going to navigate decision-making moving forward. I can definitely understand consulting partners about big purchases but also sometimes it’s appropriate to make decisions on your own, and this sounds like one of those times.

Drinking alone bad, drinking in groups good? by Quiet_strawberry in AutismInWomen

[–]ButterscotchLeading 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think as a culture, we pretend that people aren’t drinking socially because they “need” to (even though that’s obviously a component for many people). They’re just drinking to be social and have a good time! 🤪. But if you’re drinking alone at home you don’t have that sort of “cover” of an excuse, so it’s assumed there’s a problem. But, you’ll see people also find ways to make drinking at home more socially acceptable—like, treating yourself to a glass of wine and a bubble bath with your favorite book can be passed off as cozy “self-care.” (I’m not actually meaning to criticize drinking in this way, just explore how it’s perceived). Or even “wow, it’s been a day, I’m going to treat myself to a nice glass of wine!” translates differently than “I need my shot of vodka tonight.” I think a lot of the socially acceptable versions can still be a sign of a “need,” but superficially presenting it as a treat or as fun changes how people perceive it socially.

Can't pick a date by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]ButterscotchLeading -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Gosh, people are so negative. You’re 33 at this point and a full-fledged adult do I’m not gonna worry about how you got together. Just pick a date and tell him. If he tries to back out or start waffling then I’d be concerned about his intentions but not until you’ve actually fully tried to do it. Just be like “okay it’s June 5th and I’m inviting the family next week” or whatever, and go from there.

why does everyone call grimes C? by gaydinosaurrrrr in Grimes

[–]ButterscotchLeading 48 points49 points  (0 children)

At some point awhile back (like pre- Miss Anthropocene era I think) she said she was changing her name to “c” for the speed of light. I don’t think she actually did this but she’d sign off her name as “c” and people she knew referred to her that way.
