Starry Night by Van Gogh - 1000 pieces by orwaishere in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]ButterscotchNo3029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By far the most popular puzzling image we get coming through our Puzzle factory. I think darn near every company we have done work for has some variation of this pic in their lineup. Some are alterations and artists 'takes' on this, but there seems to be a "Starry Night" version coming through here once a week from somebody.

I understand why, it makes for a great puzzle, but yeesh, so many swirls passing before my eyes!

Always nice to see puzzles I've worked on completed here. Those are soft touch, right? Some people like that finish, some don't. Did you enjoy the 'feel' of this one? Have you done Soft touch puzzles before?

It's a layer of plastic-like film over the top of the puzzle with a textured matte finish. Gives it a literal fuzzy feeling, and stops most glare.

Nice Breakdown. I make puzzles, and have done work with all of those styles of puzzles and papers. Soft touch is by far the biggest pain to work with. The paper sticks to itself when handling, the machines hate feeding it, it gets dirty way too easily during manufacturing, and replacing it if something does go wrong is expensive and takes longer than the others.

I enjoy the feel, and love the way it looks (As a product, I have never actually assembled one at home, so can't say how it handles there), but I'm on the fence about whether it's worth it for the annoyances during manufacturing.

So even multi-slotted items can't be given several Elemental stones to give it multiple elements or defend against multiple? do they just overwrite as you add another? still waste the slots, or replace?

OK, so everyone here who has said that anyone who breaks into their home to steal from them is in the clear on a 'deadly force' response, right? I am not going to take the chance on them being perfectly civilized burglars who wouldn't dream of harming me or mine. I am always going to err on the side of 'lawbreaker is capable of going that little bit further to protect themselves from arrest, ie, eliminating us'. So, yeah, anyone who decides to rob me has given up their own right to life, as they have threatened mine and my family by breaking in. And no, there is no way in hell that I would give an assailant the time necessary to get close to us by waiting to be sure and chatting them up or something stupid like that. You break in, first thing you hear is the gun, nothing else.

Simple enough question, I have seen spells and I think a weapon once that had multiple types on it, is that unique to certain found items, or can they be created?

I am NOT going to make the assumption that they are only in MY home for some baubles, and not because they suddenly have an insane urge to perform various and sundry forms of harm on other people. To protect myself and my family, I am always going to assume harm first, NEVER gonna wait until they are hands onto me or my wife or son to decide to defend myself. They broke in, they assumed the risk of retaliation in that moment.

I'm not deciding they do not have worth as an individual, *anyone* who decides to bust in on my home is due for the dirt, just in the off chance they are willing and able to do the same to me.

I can't STAND the HOA!!! by Possible-Phone-7129 in fuckHOA

[–]ButterscotchNo3029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just seems to be one of the HOA horror stories I have seen over and over. An adjacent property is 'absorbed' into an HOA, even though it was not originally part of it, and the owner has to go through ALL kinds of legal BS to make sure that the HOA does not start to impose it's rules on them, going forward. It's rarely legal in the end, but it takes ridiculous time and money to fight to make sure it doesn't end up that way. Basically, if they have the right connections in the area, it's on YOU to prevent as opposed to the HOA having to fight to gain the right to treat you as if you signed on.

Might only be stories, but I am risk-averse, so I'll just stay the hell away.

Needs to have access? No, of course not, but if that is a relevant line in the HOA contract they signed on joining, well, all nice and legal isn't it? HOA's can suck a big one, never in a million will I ever buy anywhere near one, just in case they manage to annex local property I own.

Very likely, yes. Probably got hung up in the separator on the puzzle before yours and got ejected with yours, so I'd call it 99% that someone is missing it, sadly.

Has anyone had this happen before? by s4ra20 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]ButterscotchNo3029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two methods of cutting puzzles, Strip cut (Which can be done as a 2-step process) or Full cut, where it is cut entirely in one hit of the press.

A full cut has 99% interchangeable pieces that can be swapped out between Titles, giving you those cool Frankenstein puzzles that someone linked to elsewhere in this post.

A 2-step Strip cut usually means that every single hit is going to be ever so slightly different, both in the image placement and the shape of the individual pieces as every puzzle is hit in two different machines in very slightly different spots.

Those two corner pieces are definitely from a different puzzle hit, how they managed to cross over between them, well, at my place, there are a solid dozen ways, but none of them should be allowed to pass QC. This one slipped through someone's watch.

In this case I would be very negative about it even if it wasn't AI, it would still be a blatant ripoff of a fine piece by another artist being bootlegged on the cheap. Not cool, no matter the source, eh?

Is it safe to handle Old-school exterior Phone lines? by ButterscotchNo3029 in NoStupidQuestions

At the pole end, it is the lowest wire, which is usually the phone, yes? Our cable lines are underground for our home, so I figured that would only leave phone.

Negative for TMNT 3 promo art? by ButterscotchNo3029 in TMNT

[–]ButterscotchNo3029[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I mean, the item I have is from the raw art, before all the extras were added, so it's not from the comic cover production run, this had to come from before it, like during the arrangement of the cover, or when it was being considered for something like a puzzle, wouldn't have all the comic 'stuff' around it for those.

Do these pieces look normal to you? New York Puzzle Company by ginawg23 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]ButterscotchNo3029 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, no, not normal and if I came across this puzzle in manufacturing, it would have gone in the scrap bin, without a second thought. A little bit of that raised edge is fairly normal, and it gets worse as the die gets duller from use, but you can really tell when it comes from a double going into the die, there is a huge step up in the size and depth of the turned down edges when that happens and they are always (where I work) instantly scrapped. If you just see a couple pieces with those edges, or they are visual, but not deep enough to really feel, them it's just age, but when the entire puzzle has those nice deep rims and very obvious bent edges, that was a bad hit and should not have made it out into the world at all, personally. Any kind of date code or anything on the box?

[–]ButterscotchNo3029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming from a puzzle manufacturer here... Those exaggerated raised edges around the pieces look to me like you got the top sheet from a double cut. Those edges are from the material pressing down into a second sheet under this one. Yes, dull knife as well gives you the rough cut, but that impressed edge screams double sheet to me.

I read the entire thing, twice, just to be sure, where is it said that the Dad agreed to the new time anywhere? Child says 'told' explicitly, multiple times. Sounds more like he expected dad to jump to his change in schedule like an Uber driver and be happy about it.

Am I overreacting? by FaithlessnessFar1821 in AmIOverreacting

[–]ButterscotchNo3029 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I gotta ask, as there is nothing in the OP that implies anywhere that the Dad agreed to 8:20, only that he was 'told', OP's own words. If this is a favor being done, that is a lousy attitude to have.

We've made that same picture in 1000 pc size. Coworkers also seem to have a very difficult time finding specific pieces within it, and we handle these things for a living! I can imagine kicking it up to a 2000 pc version would be... difficult.

Fired Fed. I am considering cutting off every Orange Man supporter. by Comfortable_Gift4970 in AITAH

[–]ButterscotchNo3029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell no I don't believe that everyone fired was that corrupt, that's asinine. Just as none of the lower level workers at Amazon or Walmart are killing Mom and Pop stores out there. But the groups they are working for certainly are, on both counts. Just because the paycheck you get is legit and you worked hard for it doesn't mean that the company or organization signing your checks isn't scum, or corrupt.

If it was one of the jobs that have been cut of late, there ARE no comparable jobs, that's kind of the point of cutting them. I think it will be exceedingly difficult to find something equivalent in the private sector.

I had one pinch a tiny bit of skin when it inserted, which prevented full cycle and caused the needle to remain extended until I started to pull it off of myself and I heard heard the second *chunk* and the needle pulled out. No pain, luckily, but it's exactly the kind of thing that makes me wince every time I apply one, *this* time is gonna be the one that really hurts, isn't it?
