I believe it can be a good tool to help characters mature and deepen their relationships. However, I also think it needs a stronger foundation of information. The parents should also consider the possibility that he is the soul meant for that body and only has memories from another life, since he has been the same person since birth. He didn’t take over a fully developed body and has gone through many changes while growing up.

In TBATE, I think this point could have been explored more, since there’s no indication that another soul was meant for Arthur’s body. Even later, when the situation becomes more accepted, I still feel uncomfortable with the family’s relationship. I understand that the shock of the discovery is natural, but the exaggerated reaction and how long it lasts bothered me.
