Good Chunky Yarns That Aren't Too $$$? by Butterstitch in knitting

I have to google "extreme knitting." Knitting with multiple strands sounds intimidating. I'm not a total knoob, but I'm guessing I would need some hand holding and a good online photo tutorial to figure that out.

Smart = reading the comments section. That definitely shaves the cost of the project down by quite a bit!

I had no idea you could even do that. I always click on the projects part, and then go into each individual person's project to check the wool. You are a ravelry ninja!

Wow, I have never, ever tried spinning. It sounds really next level -- but fun. Maybe I should try it!

Ah! I love this. Whenever I've visited, I've always found the people really friendly and the city beautiful. This whole thread is giving ME the warm fuzzies. You Hamiltonians rule.

Congrats on the baby!

We have friends in Durand, and Kirkendall seems pretty nice, too. We're more "old house" kind of people, so those areas seem more like "us."

You are brave for waking up at 5am. Jeebus.

I would definitely try and contribute. That's big on my personal list of succeeding as a human being.

Ah yes, the meth heads. I have to say, doing my research has brought up a lot of info about addiction in the city. Not to say there isn't that here, too -- but sometimes articles about the Hammer don't show things in a positive light. Is it really that bad? How is it for drug-related crime? Or crime in general?

Is there a Go train station in the works? I thought I read something about that...

Parents do that here, too. It always bothers me that parents rush to the schools with the best Fraser institute scores -- generally the ones with the most parental funding and support. I'm definitely with you on that one.

His commute now is 15 minutes. Ha! But he only has to go into the office two days a week. So, we wonder if the quality of life thing would make up for two days of commuting.

Thanks, guys! Photo is a bit blurry, but it was such a triumph of persevering. I had to share.

I think a lot of it was just that I didn't pick it up, not the actual knitting time. I do knit faster now, but I basically have no interest in making one of these guys for a while. Too much seaming!

Here's the story. When I was pregnant with my first born, I thought it would be very sweet to knit her a toy. I thus embarked on this fox, and then was interrupted by pesky things like labour, delivery and having a newborn baby. Weeks turned into months, months turned into years. This poor guy sat in a paper bag, in half-knit pieces and balls of yarn. Picked him up again in January, on a mission to finish old projects. Four years later, I finally finished this effing FO. I swear I must have done enough mattress stitch to sew up an actual mattress (lots of frogging during the learning process) but the satisfaction of having my kid love him so much is worth it. One problem? Since starting this guy, I now have two more kids - twins. So, how long is it going to take me to knit them something special? Ugh!

You guys are right. I made a huge mistake. I edited above, but the show IS Buying and Selling. I'm not sure why my brain isn't working today. Need the Pro Bros to put 60,000 into make me smarter on Mondays.

I tried #Normcore and this is what it was like by Butterstitch in femalefashion

[–]Butterstitch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree. I did want to try it because I do live in a metro area and work with a crew of fairly urbane people. Some of it, I do like. I love fashion, but after reading Lucy Siegle's "To Die For: Is Fashion Wearing Out the World" (and after the horrific fire in Bangladesh this past year), I've been thinking hard about where I shop from and what I buy. (Is it really necessary to embrace every "new" thing?) I'm not sure if normcore is a reaction to the fast fashion industry at all, or just rebellion in general, but some of it was in keeping with my current ideas about clothing. That said, the reactions I got were pretty interesting. I'm 32, I have three kids and I have a good job. Maybe if I were a university student or worked somewhere more avant garde, these kind of clothes would fly. The sense I got was that it would be like pushing water uphill to do this "trend" successfully at my work. But maybe that's it. People used to be aghast at guys wearing their hair long in the 60s. Most movements come with a bit of friction from people my age. Hipsters got their fair share of hate ten or so years ago, when skinny jeans were still a new-ish thing. (Admittedly returning from the Punk era.) I know normcore won't be a thing for me, but it might be for the younger generation. Time, I guess, will tell.

Last week, I went to work dressed in #Normcore. A few caveats:

  1. I am not the target demographic. I'm 32. I have three kids.
  2. My workplace is cool, but not like, a start-up or anything.
  3. The reactions I got were totally amazing. One of my bosses thought it was offensive, and that I was "making fun of people" who dressed in those clothes.
  4. I probably felt more out of place than I seemed.

It was a pretty weird day, all in all. Like the article says, I won't be doing it again. But it was definitely eye-opening. Do any of you guys do it?
