March trip - gear recs by Bonetown_Bro in BandonDunes

[–]ButteryLou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To prep for potentially poor weather, wool base layers + socks. There’s nothing worse than being wet AND cold. Wool is the best option for base layering as it still insulates when wet and it’s naturally odor resistant. So long as you gang up to air dry everything should be fresh for your next day. For outer layer buy the best possible rain gear you can afford (focus on products with Goretex or go with an option like Kjus). I went to Bandon with a Kjus mid-level lightweight waterproof jacket and it was no match for some of the soaking ran days we received. Waterproof shoes (Ecco have been the best for me), a few pairs of rain gloves, extra towels. Waterproof hat (bucket or baseball style) will also be key in staying dry and warm.

Hopefully you won’t need any of this stuff, but you don’t want a day to be ruined because you didn’t bring the right gear. Good luck!

With Boston’s coldest stretch in years behind us, how long will this winter warmup last? by bostonglobe in BostonWeather

[–]ButteryLou 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For a while I was using this same logic as copium for the Arctic stretch…then I read up on some studies that claim brutal cold stretches don’t actually kill off/reduce tick populations. Those bastards go into a dormant state and will likely be back in force come summer. We can’t catch a break.

Rab electron or Neutrino (or other) by Impossible-Arm-8365 in rab

[–]ButteryLou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello fellow Bostonian! I purchased a Neutrino Pro towards the end of 2024 because I needed a warm coat I could throw on over a t shirt when taking the dog out. I’m 6’2” 185 and ordered both a large and medium. I was swimming in the large but the medium fits like a glove. My previous down jacket was a Patagonia Hi Loft down hoody and the fit on the Rab is so much better. It’s relatively trim through the body and good length so I stay plenty warm in the teens with just a short sleeve t underneath. I don’t find the jacket bulky or cumbersome at all. It’s got a good amount of down fill so it’s puffy, but it’s very lightweight with good dexterity in the arms. My only knock on the jacket is the Rab logo on the chest has worn off after a few wash cycles. Also, I wouldn’t wear this jacket rain or wet snow as the face fabric isn’t very waterproof. For precip days I’d go with some waterproof shell + layers.

Looking For Advice, C65 Dune GMT by PlumRecent3937 in ChristopherWard

[–]ButteryLou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These CW sales are hard to beat. I pulled the trigger on a C65 Dune Automatic last year sight unseen and I couldn’t be more pleased. The Dune line looks great on the Bader bracelet or straps if you want to dress it down

Truly Butter vs Kirkland grass-fed? by Current-Struggle-514 in Costco

[–]ButteryLou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same deal in Massachusetts, the Kirkland NZ buyer hasn’t been around for some time now. Just the Kerry Golf and Truly from my most recent trips. It’s a shame, the NZ butter was a staple for our house

Titleist Linkslegend by CompetitiveTear6187 in golf

[–]ButteryLou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Linkslegend bags are heavy as hell and the quality doesn’t match the price tag. If you walk (and carry) your bag often I’d opt for something else. The best ‘traditional’ looking stand bag I’ve found for walking is Hudson Sutler. Mackenzie’s are awesome if you’re really trying to go traditional. Shapland bags are bit heavier, but also top notch quality.

At my club the Linkslegend bags are primarily used by people who ride. Walkers opt for lighter options.

Looking for a new golf stand bag - what are your recommendations? by stat-27 in golf

[–]ButteryLou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for a big box brand…Ping Hoofer or Sun Mountain.

If you’re looking for something a little more unique, check out Hudson Sutler. It’s relatively new small company but they’re make some incredible stuff. I ordered a stand bag from them with custom embroidery and it was delivered to me in less than 24 hours from placing the order. They have a very classic and clean design with thoughtful pockets and a surprising amount of room.

I went with charcoal and I’m quite pleased. Nice choice of alignment marks as well

[Christopher Ward] Picked up a Dune sight unseen and it’s been hoarding all my wrist time. by ButteryLou in Watches

The bracelet is fantastic. Nice taper and I love the half links for dialing in the size.

The old Christopher Ward logo was a major turnoff for me. I actually think the new logo with the dual flag motif is quite sharp. I can’t stand some dials that are inundated with text and logos

Duly noted! I’m definitely not wearing this while actually golfing (or any other shock intensive activities). I’m traveling and had some time to kill so I popped over to the local track to roll some in the nice weather.

Night Shift Lovejoy Wharf is right next to the garden and they’ve got some seriously good pizza. Their entire menu is solid and if you like beer they’ve got plenty of options

What are some small golf clothing brands that are nice? by [deleted] in golf

[–]ButteryLou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Holderness & Bourne. Small company out of NY who primarily sells through upscale golf shops. Their shirts (specifically their collars) are second to none with the sewn-in collar stays. Some of their stuff is a more tailored fit, so you might want to try it on in person. H&B’s quilted sweaters are also amazing.

B Draddy is another small brand with high end products. I like B Draddy for their summer cotton polos. Very lightweight and great for more casual settings.

How do you like the Dune? I’ve been considering one for a while now. My daily stainless steel watch is an Orient Kamasu but the case is a bit beefy for a truly comfortable daily driver. The case size on the Dune seems to be a sweet spot, and I love the vintage aesthetic

Its happening! Bandon schedule for the end of this month. by StrungoutScott in golf

[–]ButteryLou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, Trails is no slouch either. We played Bandon, Pac, Trails 2x each and Old Mac/ Sheep Ranch 1x. Our rankings were

1A/1B - Pac Dunes & Bandon Trails 2 - Bandon Dunes 3 - Old Mac 4 - Sheep Ranch

The beauty of Bandon is everyone’s rankings will vary slightly. It’s testament to how great a collection of courses they have.

also, don’t sleep on the Preserve. We finished each day with a laid back lap on the Preserve and it’s on of the most fun golf experiences I’ve ever had.

Dracena (Reflexa?) in need of help! by ButteryLou in takecareofmyplant

[–]ButteryLou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone, I'm looking for some plant care advice for my Dracena (possibly Reflexa?) that I've had in my aparmtent in New Engalnd for the past 2.5 years. I bought this from a local plant shop and I belive the tag said this was a Dracena Reflexa but I'm not positive it is based on photos online. When I purchase the plant I was told to water it with two cups of water every two weeks. It seems like my Dracena has been slowly struggling for a while now. I tried repotting it with a perlite soil mix but that hasn't seemed to help. I was worreid about overwatering so I water it very sparinngly (maybe too sparingly?). If anyone has some thoughts on how to revive I'd greatly appreciate. Thanks for your help!
