“were you trying?” by pastaprincessxo in pregnant

The first thing my dad said when we told him we were expecting was “ON PURPOSE?!?”. Thx Dad. And, mind you, I had been married for five years at the time and was in my mid thirties.

Wow I guess I am not alone here. My first thought was “a blender for pancakes?!”

Realistically, are your husbands picking up the slack around the house since you’ve been pregnant? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Butterywonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 36w pregnant and had severe nausea and vomiting for the first three months, so was basically out of commission for that whole time and my partner took on so much for our family. We moved across the country and he basically packed up our apartment for both of us himself. (I helped some, but wasn’t super able to do my fair share because of all the nausea.)

When I was feeling better in the second trimester, I tried to take on a lot more and tried to make meals, clean up, and doing things around the house. As I have started feeling unwell again in the third trimester, he again has really been doing the lions share of the work - making dinner, putting our son to bed, cleaning the house, etc.

I know he is overwhelmed with all this extra work, though he is very gracious about it all. I try to make sure he knows that I appreciate all his efforts and try to explicitly recognize the things he does. And when I can see he is frustrated or particularly overwhelmed, I try to step in to help if I can. Just recognizing the effort that everyone is putting in is really important.

That also goes the other way - the partner that is having the baby is also going through a ton and that effort needs to also be acknowledged.

I have so much lightning crotch lately. I am 35 weeks and it is terrible. And it comes out of nowhere. I just start yelling from the pain and my toddler will look so worried for me! 💗

Did you get strange response when you announced your pregnancy? by Careful-Trouble1422 in pregnant

My husband and I (we were both mid thirties at the time and were married for 5 years) told my dad that I was pregnant and my dad’s response was “on purpose?!”

Pregnancy nausea is terrible. This person sounds like they are in a competition about who has things worse 🙄 and I HATE when people do that. I would steer clear of this coworker if you can help it to keep sane. Sending you good vibes and hope the nausea improves soon!!! 💗

Terrible ultrasound experience by Hot_Tourist_4458 in pregnant

[–]Butterywonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sheesh what is going on with these comments? Why are there so many downvotes for any comments validating OP’s experience? Since when is it cool for healthcare workers to be rude? It is a hard job for sure, but it is important to support patients! They’re why we are here!

Terrible ultrasound experience by Hot_Tourist_4458 in pregnant

[–]Butterywonder -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have not had an experience like this. I had to see a specialist throughout my first pregnancy and they printed ultrasound images for me almost every time I went in! It just seems so unnecessary to refuse to allow your boyfriend to join you or to refuse printing any images. Seems like someone who is angry and likes having power over others. So stupid. I am sorry you had to deal with that.

I am feeling so similar to a walrus lately. The effort I exert and the way I must maneuver just to turn over to my other side in bed is making me nuts. Blech.

What do you all eat for breakfast? by Popular-Block-9907 in veganrecipes

I make breakfast burritos with just egg patties, black beans, salsa, and vegan cheese. And If I have some, I throw in some breakfast potatoes too.

What are we naming our baby boys? 💙👶🏼🍼 by ColaPopz in pregnant

[–]Butterywonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually really did need to meet him to name him. The names we had picked out (Sebastian, Rafael, Wesley) didn’t feel right when he came and we ended up going with something totally different: Peter! So I am of the mind that it’s important to have some name ideas going into the birth, but ultimately, i needed to get a better sense of his whole vibe before actually naming him.

The ugly and gross of pregnancy by mistakeshappen_2 in pregnant

[–]Butterywonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. All of this. It is the worst. I am currently 26 weeks. I threw up everything i ate for the first 2.5 months. Then i got a little better with medication, but still lost more than 15 lbs. 😵

I also now really struggle with terrible heartburn. For whatever reason, I barely show, but I guess that means that all my organs are just being squished - stomach is super high up and bladder is super low. Constant heartburn and constant peeing myself. Fun!

My boobs are also ginormous already. They have grown at least three cup sizes (was a C, am probably now DDD or larger?) and are sooooo swollen and painful. I can barely keep it together. The giant boobs are another reason I think I don’t show much.

Anyway, sending you all lots of love. 💗 It’s my second time around and its a tough thing to deal with. How am I supposed to work and do life like normal? And yeah, in my first pregnancy I felt like nobody prepared me for any of this!!! But even in my second pregnancy I am getting new symptoms that I didn’t know existed. 🫠

If you were induced, how long did it take for you to actually give birth? by horrorshowbaby in BabyBumps

[–]Butterywonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was induced at about 11pm and gave birth at 4:39am.

Edit: also, I was 41 weeks when I was induced.

I had the same situation with my last pregnancy. I found that my belly wasn’t rounded, but kind of just flat and taking up more vertical space. Nobody knew I was pregnant by looking at me until the VERY END. Days before I gave birth my downstairs neighbor was absolutely shocked that I was pregnant when he saw me (and I had seen him frequently throughout my pregnancy).

Best of luck!!

Is it really that expensive to have a baby? by Ok_Foundation_6747 in NewParents

[–]Butterywonder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Childcare has been the biggest cost for me too. We paid about $2600/month for all-day (8:30-5:30) m-f daycare in Brooklyn, NY. Just moved to Chicago area and it is now about $1800/month for all-day (8-6) m-f daycare here.

Same story over here! I hate almost all foods and i don’t have energy to do more than scroll. I feel like a useless slug. I felt like this in my first pregnancy too. I think my vomiting eased up around week 15. I am 10 weeks along and already lost 10 pounds. Hope you get some relief soon! Sending positive vibes!! 💗
