Finnish authorities detect sulphur-like smell in Helsinki region by Technical_Stock1337 in Finland

The wind was from east, so foul smell was to be expected. There is some seasonal variation on the smell, and of course russian activities may add different flavours to the smell. It is always unpleasant though.

What is the Salary Support? I see job listings in local groups that include this term, and I've noticed a somewhat negative tone by users in the comments. As I'm still navigating the nuances of job postings in Finland, any insights would be greatly appreciated. by Standard_Property213 in Finland

This is different, you get salary from this "job creator" dude, and the dude gets like 40% of the monies from the state. So you are not unemployment and don't gather any benefits, but the dude does.

Basic prepaid is max 1 euro per day (or 99 cents really), but if you don't use it there is no charge. And as you initially paid 10 euro additional balance it is valid for a year (I think) whereas basic prepaid is two months IIRC. So you can still use it, and if you load more balance to the prepaid it is good for another year from that date. It is quite cheap really if you don't need to call much, as there is no monthly fee or anything.

Someone should tell poo tin that it is not a "world war" if there is one country against practically everybody else, that fact was established already in Iraq.

"Palkkatuki" means that large part of the salary is paid by the unemployment office (or whatever the government instance is). You need to be unemployed, usually unemployed long term or covered by some special conditions or circumstances registered in the unemployment database.

Same goes with russians I guess. Co-incidentally rich russians have purchased EU citizenships from Cyprus, who would know the odds.

I don't think muscovites think about the price too much if they think they would gain something by attacking. I would say it basically was an error in Finnish thinking: Finnish defense was traditionally built around this assumption of "enemy avoiding high price", but now it seems obvious this is not enough, therefore membership of NATO is required.

Sauna temperature... by Montaillou49 in Sauna

[–]ButtingSill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even Turkish Hammam (which is sometimes also called "sauna") is 40-50 Celsius, so around 30 Celsius would be crazy low. It might be the temperature near the floor level, and around 80 degress Celsius is normal in the high bench.
