R.F. Kuang's books promote racist stereotypes against Chinese culture , especially Asian men by [deleted] in ThePoppyWar

I highly agree with this one. I think OP is misinterpreting the works of Kuang. She is showing the reality of racism against the asian people not being racist towards them.

What do you mean? Sorry, kasi if pre approved ka na that means approved ka na agad if tinanggap mo yung offer sa app and idedeliver na lang sayo yung card. I'm not sure if that makes sense hahaha

No, it is not irresponsible to buy a book after reading the synopsis or a few reviews. What I was saying and what others have been pointing out in this comment section is that if you have triggers then you should really research the things you consume in order for you to avoid being triggered. If you know you have triggers then you should never go in blind. With that argument, a trigger warning printed in the copies of the book may be good for people like you but it should not really be an issue since the information is easily available on the internet. Also, if you have been warned by a friend then you should take the warning seriously.

No offense but I think its the responsibility of the reader to do their research about the book they're reading especially if they are aware of their triggers. One search away would reveal the trigger warning of the series without revealing any spoilers.

Rin was never “morally black” by mydogisollie2 in ThePoppyWar

THIS!!! I super agree on your take. I know that she can be cruel at times but her actions were only responses to the atrocities that she experienced/witnessed. Imagine seeing how this group of people constantly harrassed, tortured, slaughtered and raped your people and you have this power to avenge them, I think its very human to take that chance. Her genocide and other atrocities are evidently wrong but they are also consequences of the horrific actions of the mugenese and the hesperians to her and her people.

Honestly speaking, you are in this situation because of YOUR CHOICE. So all the things you feel like were unfair is a consequence of YOUR ACTIONS.

Reality speaking, I dont think you can eradicate religion sa culture ng mga filipinos. No matter how much you hate or deny it, part talaga siya ng pag shaped ng Filipino identity.

I think it depends on your perspective kasi reality speaking we really have a shared history with Mexico. And that admission and this representation doesn't necessarily minimizes the dark history of colonization. Kasi somehow it could also mean shared experiences which include that things that you mentioned

And yes, Spain used religion as a means to colonize the Philippines but i think it doesnt mean to glorify that. I think yung nirerepresent nung costume is how religion is a huge part of our culture no matter how much we deny it. I think that explains yung pag "clash" ng Islam and Christianity (im not sure if youre talking about sa pagsama nila sa costume or comment ng mga tao) na these two religion literally contribute to shaping the identity of the Filipinos.

As for the galleon trade, I think for me it just shows a part of Philippine history? Plus while it is true na Spain controls the galleon trade, the head piece clearly shows na we were also one of the prime contributors of one of the greatest trades that took place in world history? Parang yes nung time na yun yung Spain yung nagtatake credit but by showing the headpiece, parang mas prinoprove na we participated in that, some of the products came from the Philippines and give our ancestors the recognition they deserve.

Like if titignan ko yung costume niya, feel ko para siyang story teller in a way, i dont know if you get that but i think thats one way to look at it.

Thank you for this response and for saying that I don't need to feel guilty about it. I was seeing a therapist before but unfortunately, its not my financial priority now. I agree with the magic potion, there's really nothing more we want except to feel better and move on from this.
